I wonder how many years we'll have to wait. Oh well...good news for the PS3 & Blu Ray nonetheless

Sony should have never EVER let GTA 4 get away.

"According to the November 2007 issue # 76 of the Official Xbox Magazine Sony has secured the next Grand Theft Auto, which would be number 7 in the series, to be a true exclusive to the Playstation 3."

"Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of the Cell and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that" as said by Sony's Michael Shorrock in a statement to the press. " We handed Rockstar a signed blank check because we were short sighted enough to let Grand Theft Auto's exclusivity get away from us. Oops!"

Expect more game companies to make PS3 exclusives that weren't before. The PS3 is really in a realm of it's own right now. Nothing comes near it's power. I see a lot of industry leading companies exploring the limits of their developers.

Looks like its a fake/joke from OXBM.

Look for the quote they had when Rockstar said they would bring an exclusive franchise to the PS3 in July. The "Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of the Cell and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that" line comes right of that press release. the second half is fake.

Sweet this will be good because it will have good graphics and many hours of gameplay(so many ways to kill people you will never get bored!)

GTA IV is just an arbitrary number. It is really number 6 going by their counting, so it would just be the release after IV that is PS3 exclusive.

I'm assuming that 7 comes from GTA 1-4 + things like Vice City Stories, however it should be #9, not #7. Unless one of the GTAs is not considered part of the series, or are just remakes of each other.

No, we wait for the 7th GTA game; not GTA 7. Remember:

1. GTA
2. GTA 2
3. GTA 3
4. GTA: Vice City

7. ???

Also, three GTAs hit the PS2 during its lifespan. There's a good chance we'll see one or two more this generation after GTA 4 is released.

The next grand theft auto WILL be the 7th. Technically the one comming out soon is number 6. Dont forget Vice City (4) and San Andreas (5)

They probably just named the new one 4 because 1) those other 2 werent technically numbered, so it would confusem people if they called it 6
2) those other 3 were fairly similar, and the differences of this new gen allow for it to be the "true" successor of 3, or something along those lines.

But yeah i had previously heard about exclusivity to RS's next franchise, but a new franchise AND GTA exclusivity would be awesome

EDIT: after re-reading the article myself, it does seem to be a joke about GTA exclusivity. Either way, if they really do make a game that needs multiple DVD9s, atleast itll mean they'll be making it to PS3 spec and not dumbing it down by making it to 360 spec

RockStar has allready stated problems with fitting all the info for GTA IV on one DVD for the 360. They asked MS for a hard drive required for it to play so they could compress info on disc and expand to hard drive, but MS said NO as not all 360 have hard drive and they did not want to alienate 360 fans like they did original xbox fans. Some people believe this is reason for delay on GTA IV while they tried to cut out gameplay to fit it on DVD for 360. Is there any way that it could actually be GTA IV that is going back to PS3 exclusive? save RockStar a lot of trouble trying to fit IV on a DVD and Sony could have paid them enough to recoup what they have already spent trying to port it to 360. I know it is not slated to come out until 08 now, but if indeed the scenario I have laid out is true, maybe earlier now? NE1 have any thoughts?

Your partially correct in that they mis-counted the number in the GTA series. The actual count is....

1) GTA
2) GTA 2
3) GTA London
4) GTA 3
5) GTA Vice City
6) GTA San Andreas
7) GTA 4

That would make the new GTA 4 the 7th in the series. so "IF" Sony got exclusive for the next GTA it would technically be the 8th in the series. so the article is still a fake.....

Last I heard for GTA IV, the game was pused back to next year. Reason being is that rockstar is working with both sony and microsoft to make sure that the game is as optimized for the hardware as possible.
