Default Halo3 for PS3?

http://www.news.com/Microsoft-Halo-c...l?tag=nefd.top

Halo3 creator Bungie will become a separate independent company which can make games for game consoles other than xBox 360. If PS3 sells well in the coming holiday season, that sure will turn heads of the game makers.

Microsoft said it will retain a stake in the new company and will continue to publish future Halo games
Yeah, but from seeing that Halo will probably stay 360 exclusive...no way Microsoft will let go of that franchise easily

I could bet that M$ has locked a contract or financial interests in the Halo Franchise, that would prevent Bungie from porting it to other consoles.

On the plus sides, If Bungie decided to develop a -new- franchise, say .. Hilo ... THAT could be ported to PS3

Halo will not come to PS3. No way. Forget about it.

Besides Ill bet anyone that the length of that game and the 640p issue BOTH come from DVD9 and processing issues. 640p on their main franchise? lol get real

Bungie may have left Microsoft to become an independent company, but Microsoft still has the rights to any Halo related game that has been/will be made. They also have first dibs on anything that Bungie develops.

I bet half of it came from the fact that M$ rushed them into this release. Imagine if M$ had let them have another six months or so just to finish development... BTW Halo 3 is beautiful

I'll take that bet. Not on the 640p part, but definitely on the length. The length has to do with time, money, and resources, and nothing to do with disk space. I'd have no problem putting money on that.

If disk space made for longer games, Heavenly Sword wouldn't be so short.

Nonetheless...Halo will not come to PS3. MS owns it, and isn't going to let it go regardless of Bungie being autonomous.

Cool This is Bungie wanting to actually make some money

M$ is ultra-restrictive with Bungie and they have chafed at it for years. When it came time to re-up their contract they made requests that M$ wouldn't accept. This is good news for the future as there is some great FPS talent at Bungie but it's not like they're going to stop writing games for the 360. I would be willing to bet that they still are practically an exclusive studio, just one with a lot more creative and financial freedom.

It's entirely possible that Halo could come to PS3 actually... just not likely.

It really depends on the specifics of the deal.

If MS retains all distribution rights is a major thing. The studio may be independent, but they are not a distributor (in most cases). They just make the game.

We really can't say until we are privy to the entirety of the deal. Though I would find it very unlikely that MS hasn't established it's flagship title as completely locked in to Xbox/Windows.

Funny how people forget about the history of Halo and Bungie though... I'm quite privy to it all as I was involved slightly in the original Xbox development and witnessed first hand the MS acquisition of the once Mac platform only Bungie by MS when they were searching for a title with enough hype to sell their console first go around. Halo was originally made for Mac only, ironically. The game had to be completely reworked for Xbox back then. It just turned out that Halo had the most prospect of all the games in development at the time, so MS threw money at it. Probably one of the only good calls MS has made.

Example of a bad call? The Xbox 360 blows up a lot... we know this (33% ish). Well, many people think this is because of poor engineering of the board; however, it's actually sourced from very poor _case design_. What actually happened was marketing designed the case and 'look' they absolutely had to have "or else the 360 would fail for sure" and forced engineers to build the inside to fit in it. Usually you would know how the inside would be and build a slick case around it. As a result, there was no way to work within the case design to make a solid product. To this day I still can't believe MS moved ahead with the project in that state knowing of these flaws simply for vanity/marketing reasons. Scary.

Why were they so adamant about having the case shaped like a giant maxi pad?

Attract more women gamers (new market and all that)?

I'm as confused as you are.

Note: Had to delete my first response to this as I thought it may breach an old NDA I had with MS from when I worked with them (not for them).

well said. I'm looking forward to haze/cod4. I'm optimistic about haze because of the prior games that the devs have worked on.
