Yes, if you bought a back catalogue of films this would be right at the top of your release schedule

Isn't it JUST the most random release? I saw it up for pre-order on Amazon and couldn't really work out why it was getting a blu ray release. Not that I didn't love the film when I was 10 of course.

I assume the distributor is just exploiting their property.

Better than nothing I suppose. Maybe they've got a really high quality source. There was a great transfer on French TV I'm sure.

Really bad film. Bad filmmaking, bad for the SAS and bad for all involved.

No indeed, not bad at all. But does this film have enough fans to rush out and buy this on day 1?

One word; why? I mean, the last series of Ultimate Farce was better than this irredeemably bad pile of, well, you know what...

Sorry, but i have to confess to loving this film!
It was a film my mates and i watched when we were lads in the cadets
Its a bit cheesy, and looks very dated now, but its still good fun, and so quintisentially British
One mans shite, is another mans gold.
This movie never got a decent DVD release and was only ever available in the UK with a shoddy 4:3 picture and rubbish sound.
I'll be picking this up as soon as i see it!
"Last of the gentlemen producers" was an extra on the Wild Geese DVD wasn't it?

Final series of Ultimate Farce, sorry, Force, was just awful! (series 1 was good)Surely Peter Skellen has more credibility than that!!!

That's just my point; it was awful! And, so was Who Dares Wins. Ok, I at least concede that Peter Skellen has more credibility than Grant Mitchell, sorry, er Henno Garvie...

Anyone know the tech specs on this yet? Are we just gonna get a 2.0 lossy or will there be a full fat lossless?
What are Arrows other titles like, do they spend any time remastering or will it be shite!?

Got this mail today from Mark at Arrow films about Who Dares Wins :

Hi Jon,

Who Dares Wins will be available to but on April 5th 2010.

We are producing a special Blu-ray and DVD collector’s edition set. This consists of the features 16x9 in HD on the bluray and mono 2.0 audio, The making of, The documentary: Last of the gentleman producers, and the original theatrical trailer. The DVD consists of the exact same content except is standard DVD format.

We decided to produce the product in this way after asking fans about the film, and a lot wanted it in Blu-ray and DVD to watch either while travelling or in their home cinema systems.

At Arrow we listen to the fans..

Please look out for our other new great releases on Blu-ray and DVD in the future.

Kind regards.

Mark

Mine just came from England today. It works for region A for those interested. From just the few minutes that i went through it still has that grainy look but it is in high-def.

I forgot how badly acted this movie is and the cheesy 80's clothing. It only gets interesting toward the end. It's a movie you either love or hate.

I'm no expert and sound and visual knowledge so forgive me for not knowing all the terminology. I usually buy movies because I like them and not so much on how perfect it's been restored/cleaned up.

My husband was living in England at the time this happened hence having two copies of the movie. He remembers being glued to the TV watching this happen and having the SAS storm the building.

I pulled out my 2002 DVD copy to compare the Blu-ray and DVD enclosed. There is a big difference between the 2002 DVD and the DVD. This DVD has better sound and the picture is clearer and sharper. If you have the 2002 version, it's worth upgrading. When I checked the back of the 2002 copy, it reads 4:3 Full frame and the new one is 16:9.

The Blu-ray is even clearer than the DVDs, but it's not anything completely mind blowing. The audio is okay but I think the DVDs have better sound. It's an old 80's film and they didn't do a detailed restoration.

For 13 Pounds (about 20 US dollars) it's a great deal for a DVD and Blu-ray. However; you MUST have a region free player to play the DVD unless you live where you have PAL. The extras are in PAL so you only have audio on the Blu-ray.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the insights Bethany.

This is really a niche film. Theres not a huge following for it, so it was never going to go to Lowry to have a Bond style restoration.
I'm suprised its got a BD release at all.
Most people think the movie is terrible. Whilst on many levels i'm inclined to agree, but it has a special place in my heart nontheless. Plus, i love that music by Roy Budd.
I think Arrow are quite a small company, and operate on a limited budget, so i'm not really surprised that it falls below standard in terms of quality.
It will be nice to have the film in proper 16:9 aspect, as no previous releases have offered that.
Its winging its way to me as we speak, so i'll be plopping it in my player very soon.
