20th Century Fox Stargate Universe 1.0 (2009)

Ok MGM/Fox will release Stargate Universe 1.0 (9 ep, 2 disc set) in Feb 2010
for the MSRP of 70$US or 90$CAD!!!!! witch mean it will be impossible to get under 65.99$ in Canada, it's the price of LOST SEASON 5!!!!!!!!

Yeah tell me about it.

It's a mediocre show, and is not worth $90 for half a season.

I actually really love the show (except for the episode 'Earth' which was painfully bad) but this is way overpriced. I mean, I bought the complete Stargate SG-1 box set (all 10 seasons) on dvd two weeks ago for $105 from Amazon and this will cost half of that.

I still don't know why some studios release volume sets and not just the entire season in a DVD/BD set.

It's really not a problem, they can sell it at whatever price they want to, no one is forcing me or the rest of us to buy it.

I know I won't be getting it at $60+ for just 9 episodes. I enjoy the show so far but not enough to buy it at that price.

The sad thing is that once I see it for 40% off, I will probably buy it. So you can all blame me when they keep releasing it like this.

Why should anyone blame you? If you want to buy it you go right ahead and do so

I'm still waiting for the show to start getting good. So far, the show is kind of boring, not to mention lame. No way will I buy a 1/2 season at any price. Especially when the show isn't that great. Somebody is getting greedy, me thinks!

I like the show a lot, but that is clearly overpriced.

I did a blind buy of SG-1 in the Gold Box a while ago. Read good things about the series.

I have watched 8 episodes so far, all painfully bad.

The whole set up is silly. The acting, the scripts, the directing. I never feel there is any danger (nor do I feel that the actors feel it-they are sleepwalking through their parts) or anything compelling at all.

ST-TNG started the same way, and took a couple of seasons for it to get good.

Please, can somebody tell me is this gets any better. Or is this as good as it gets?

SG-1 gets progressively better with every season. I loved it from scratch, but it does take a while before it gets to be classic Stargate.

If you aren't convinced by the episodes THE NOX and THE FIFTH RACE, you may not be. It's not for everyone, but I love it.

Keep in mind that SG-1 always has a tongue in the cheek. There will be danger and action but there will always be a little bit of a wink at the camera.

Yes. They are crazy. The first half of the season has been 10 hours of television that a good editor & director could have told in 4. They need to shape up in the back half and release a complete season box at a reasonable price before I consider biting.

This from a huge Stargate TV fan.

SG-1 really developed its stride later on, after it got off showtime. But one thing it always is/was.... layed back. It never takes itself seriously, and rips on itself and every other cheesy sci-fi show (which is all of them ) often. Best sci-fi show imo for what it is.

It is no babylon 5, BSG, farscape, or stick up the but star trek nor does it pretend to be. The first season however lays some groundwork they develop well later on, but watching it i don't think anyone involved in the show expected it to last more then that, let alone 10 whole seasons. Oh and tiel'k gets less "gold" as the show goes on.

AS for this, i would definitely buy universe on blu-ray, and hope it gets a release, i never buy the tv shows on blu when they first come out though, learned my lesson on that with DVD. Payed $110 a piece for all my star trek seasons, $130 for x-files per season, etc... Ill wait and pick it up on sale, but i love the show and think it will probably be their test title to see how the series fairs on blu, if well maybe we will see Atlantis, and SG-1 as well.

Glad to hear it get's better. If that is the case, I'll hang in there a little longer. TNG had a rough start (first 2 seasons were dreadful). BSG was amazing from the opening credits. So was Lost. So were a lot of other shows I never experienced until they came out on DVD or blu. This is the first blind buy TV series I bought where I started regreating it. But, damn, there has to be something special for it to last 10 years and have all the spinoffs...

70 USD huh? Amazon video HD on demand is 3 bucks an episode, how does having a disc justify the huge price increase, not to mention the stupid 1/2 season release.
