Default So What Kind of People Are Early Adopters?

Many of the profiles here don't yield much information. I'm not really an early adopter myself, I just jumped on the bandwagon this summer, and it's more about getting the most out of my new home theater at reasonable expense than the BD/HD war. I have both types of players, and I'm not a gamer, but I hope HDDVD goes away.

Anyway, y'all spend a lot of time and money on this "hobby". Are you young, old, professional, students, wealthy, scraping by, white or African or Asian or other...? It's an expensive hobby, by the way.

I'm interested, because I want to correlate your opinions about technology, marketing, consumers, Americans and new movies and old movies with a little bit of demographics. It's not important; its just interesting. None of my close associates, that I know of, are remotely interested in television, home theater or associated topics, but none of them are interested in parrots and homebrewing either. My family could never afford to participate in this.

reguardless of race or economic class all it takes to be an early adopter in the HD video market is to be a Videophile.

I am one thru and thru, I want video that is almost more real than real life.

I happen to love movies of all kinds and when I got my PS3 and saw a huge difference on my brothers Sony 50" SXRD my jaw hit the floor. Ever since I've been addicted to Blu Ray. Just don't have the kind of money some on here do to support my habit. I'm 33 BTW.

technology freak (like me). I have been the first to get PS2 (Japanese SCPH10000), Japanese PS3 (CECHA00).

I just want better thing. but when I heard about HD DVD, it seems like it's better than dvd but worse than BD.

If you ask the HD-DVD crowd, we are either fools or Sony shills. I want the best visual medium to watch movies. HD-DVD could not offer me what Blu Ray does. That and I have an intense dislike for the "A"man and the other so called insiders in other forums.

I second that. I love music and audio as well. I can't even enjoy the theaters anymore, even DLP projection. Sad but true.

I am not really a videophile. I like films. I would much rather have a home theatre with 35mm, 70mm and DLP projection systems but can't afford that. Never will. I'd need a nice projectionist, too, in that scenario.

So a 40 inch 1800p Bravia is a substitute. (But I'd like to do some upgrading soon, especially in the sound department....)

I really don't like going out to films much any more. I prefer the privacy of a HTS. I can choose who sits next to me. I can choose when I see the film. I can stop, replay a section, analyze a sequence, etc. When I have seen a film many times, I can simply program the sections I want to see again and forget the rest.

I'm more interested in what's on the screen and what I hear than the technical stuff that goes into it. Cool? Cool

Not a videophile either, but I love watching movies. So, I figured that if I am going to do that, I might as well have the best hardware to do it right? I picked Blu after research and talking. Second quarter this year is when I picked up my PS3 - actually the day the firmware came out for it to allow upscaling!

Been happy ever since

Hmm, I want to introduce myself as a fresh out of college engineer with a love for HD, and extra cash to spend. I just cannot imagine watching SD movies ever again. I will do it on occasion, for example Blades of Glory and probably Transformers. This is not a cheap hobby, I mean $20-$30 per movie is quite high, but I have never really been apart of anything innovative or groundbreaking so this is it for me. I wonder how I will do when the next generation media is available.

I wanted a next-gen system combined with the next-gen video. I trust Sony is gaming way more than Microsoft, so a PS3 was the easy answer.

I was an early adopter of DVD (bought my first title, Total Recall, before I even had a player). Heck, I knew what AC-3 was before my then-local high-end shop did. I love movies, I love collecting them, and watching them in the best possible format. I'm 28, a college grad, and newly married.

I recently adopted Blu-ray. I did my homework first and chose Blu-ray because I feel it will not only win, but that it deserves to based on its superior specs. I'm still aggravated that I won't be getting Transformers though...

acording to sony most early adoptors are 35 year old mals with familys and ssucure jobs that have money to spend. but that is actrualy consumer buying stuff and is normaly correct, of course this is the day and age of the internet were most young pople use the internet and are aslo more comenly more informed, so u will find with this site is its mostly 25 year olds and around there.

I purchased my PS3 a few months back (still waiting on those dang free movies ). I'm 25 and absolutely love movies when I have the time for them. The only reason I love going to the movie theatre is for the sound and huge screen. While I only have a Toshiba (yea, I know just don't make fun of me) 52inch and currently can't run surround sound b/c I live in an apt with my fiance, I do appreciate the quality that is going into these movies. When I watch a movie I want to feel immersed in the movie for the roughly 2 hours +/- that I'm watching it for. I want to be taken away from reality into the world of the movie I'm watching. I feel this can be accomplished best by a nice big screen, amazing audio and pristine picture quality.
