Default The Official Netbook thread of 'CD Drives? Where we're going we don't need CD Drives'

So to go along with the Windows 7 thread I figured to make a catch all one for people interested in buying a netbook.

I have an Acer Aspire 751 which I now use for almost everything.

Looking to replace it with something based on Ion 2/CULV.

How about you guys?

I've been thinking about getting one but might wait for the Google OS to come first. I'd only really use it for internet stuff since I also have a 17" laptop.

I've thought about it, just for the portability of it, but decided to just upgrade the Mac when it's time and use the one I have now as the ultimate portable one.

Who knows though, I might pick one up eventually.

I've been using a Toshiba Mini NB205 for over a month now and I'm completely satisfied with it. The screen is bright and the keyboard is just right for me. The battery life is excellent it even exceeds the 9-hour spec.

I might be in the market for a netbook since my Desktop died and me and been sharing the wifeys laptop lately. So far the NB205 is on top of my list, still shopping for best prices right now.

I was set on getting a highly-rated Eee PC until I tried the touch pad which kinda felt weird to me. Good thing I decided to see it in person before ordering. I also read a lot of reports about faulty AC adapters. I highly suggest you see the NB205 and other netbooks you're considering in person and try them out.

girlfriend has an acer one, she loves it. i'm ok with it 90% of the time, but there are times when i wish the 10 inch screen was closer to 13/14 to see some stuff better. but for the price, its awesome

and ion2 should make these little guys some decent powerhouses

I think the 12.1" screens are really good, my 11.6" one is anyway.

It really depends on the resolution as well, a lot of netbooks have that odd 1024x600 which isn't really good enough for most websites or apps.

12.1", Ion 2, DDR3, Win 7 Premium, 1.3GHz CULV and a decent size HDD or a fast SSD would be the ultimate $600 portable.

you like apple huh? never would have guessed.

quoted for when the apple tablet hits and your tune changes

---

and speaking of tablets, i wonder how long until tablets and netbooks merge into one type of computer. don't see the point in a netbook if the tablet does the same thing, and looks better.

all my gf does on her netbook is play on facebook and watch movies. no need for a keyboard really..

I'm waiting for a Netbook/Tablet hybrid that has a touch screen but also a slide out keyboard that's about 7". I think it would work if they customized Win7 enough. Solid State HDD would be nice too.

I think all netbooks should have Solid State HDD since it would help with power and data retention.

I thought about it, too, but I ended up getting a full laptop. It's bulkier, yeah, but it has better specs and full functionality with nearly the same price.

Anyway, I'm new to Windows 7, so if anyone wants to link me to that thread, please.

I was thinking about getting this:

http://www.amazon.com/UL30A-X5-Light...0299504&sr=1-1

Should be good enough for me. It's the size of a laptop with no CD/DVD drive.

My wife has an Asus netbook and I like it but its too small for me.
