Unhappy When Universal starts releasing on Blu-ray...

I just realized something. When Universal finally starts releasing on Blu-ray they are not going to redo the transfers they already did for HD DVD, they are just gonna take the same shitty HD DVD encode and shove it on a Blu-ray disc. It doesnt seem likely they would spend the money to re-encode them, only future titles would take full advantage of Blu-ray. Which means the longer the format war goes on the more shitty transfers will be made that will later be releaed on Blu-ray.

Probably true on the first release of most titles, but I fully expect HD DVD to be phasing out (we will see more signs of this happening in 08) and as it does so, there will be the usual double dipping only with blu in mind. PCM tracks etc.

Well if it's any consolation, pretty much all of universals titles look good except the stuff in the last 6 months. And even then, some of those came out ok. The titles that look bad, IMO don't have source material capable of showing off HD. But, what do I know...

The bigger issue is the lack of lossless audio. I hope they take the time to throw some TrueHD or LPCM....if/when they come over.

I doubt we have to worry about this ANY time soon. The likelyhood of Universal USA releasing ANY of it's movies on BRD is the same likelyhood a snowball has of stayig frozen in hell. They could change their minds someday but i'm not expecting it anytime soon.

This is probably something that will happen in 2009, maybe 2010 if they want to be bastards.
