I wanna see it! I love anything Disney (minus the crappy live action stuff).

This is the first traditionaly hand-drawn film in 20 years! and Disney's first 2D animated film since 2003's Home On The Range.

Also marks the first African-American Disney Princess

Hand drawn in the sense that only certain parts were drawn. Then the computer filled in the rest.

Traditionally in the sense that Princess And The Frog is done, the whole movie was done by hand, then photographed over backgrounds and put together in one very long slideshow.

'tis how they used to do it.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that this one isn't fully hand-drawn either...Use of CGI and hand-drawn. Using CGI to make it look hand-drawn in the parts they integrated with hand-drawn animation.

I too saw this at a pre-screening about a week or two ago. It was good, but I wouldn't go above that. The animation is incredible and I really loved the setting and how much New Orleans really comes to life through the film, but the music was a big miss for me, as were most of the characters and the story. I didn't walk away remembering any of the songs or really any of the characters. Great to see a return to the hand drawing that brought Disney to the dance, as it were, but this is definitely far below the par set in years past by the studio.

Ya, I'm not expecing it to live up to the likes of Lion King, Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin.. and so forth.
It is their first take and a lot of the animators who worked on those earlier classics are no longer there (I would imagine) so at least they're making the attempt, and I hope it doesn't stop again and they continue to release one a year or so.
Nothing like the traditional

As a huge anime fan myself and a collector of older Disney classics on blu-ray I agree but there's nothing wrong with CGI. Honestly I don't care how they animate it as long as it looks good and the movie is entertaining.

ya but there's just something about the animated hand-drawn feel to the movie that CG movies can't replace... always good to have all the mediums.

Does Disney have any other projects in development that will be hand drawn? Or maybe they're waiting to see how "The Princess and the Frog" does before diving back in?

I hope they do mix in the hand drawn style alongside their CGI counterparts. The Pixar movies are excellent, but there is warmth to the traditional style of animation.

I thought it was pretty damn good. It was great seeing good Disney hand drawn animation on the big screen again.

They actually have 2 films announced thus far for their hand drawn series as of right now after Princess.
Next one comes out December 2010, Rapunzel. The one after is King of the Elves coming December 2011. I am SOOO excited.

For more info go to http://www.disneyanimation.com/ and you can actually see some pictures from Rapunzel which looks INCREDIBLE.

Saw the film this weekend. Although it's extremely formulaic, fully embracing the Disney animated princess fairytale template (with light influential sprinklings of Shrek 2), it is a splendid film, gorgeously animated, and filled with colorfully likeable characters. The cast is absolutely pitch-perfect, especially Anika Rose as Tiana and Keith David as the villainous Shadow Man. Jim Cummings also turns in a particularly memorable performance as Ray.

It's Randy Newman's score, though, that really elevates the film, offering its own distinguished flavor. His naturally upbeat style is a perfect pairing for the jazzy, big Broadway production numbers, and totally sells the 1920s New Orleans setting. "When We're Human" and "Friends On The Other Side" are definite standouts -- as is the showstopping "Down In New Orleans", played up in this wonderful montage.

Hand-drawn animation, how I've missed you. I'm kicking myself for missing Ponyo this year (will be picking up the home release the first day it hits in March), but Princess and the Frog is a stunning return to form by the house that Mickey built.

I loved the sound to the film... but something kept it from becoming a classic to me :/ Maybe I will view it again when it comes to BD as it was fun.. and it might have been one of those times where I have built up a movie too big in my Head

PRINCESS AND THE FROG was a mix of hand-drawn and CG. CG used in a way to make it look hand-drawn. Same thing goes for Rapunzel.
