i live in the US and i got neither the dvd or the download voucher. I knew from reading other posts that WB did not include a digital copy disc, just a vucher, but to get neither is strange i thought. and opening the case there isnt an empty spot to wehre the dvd should have gone, very strange

I got mine from Amazon and it is 3 discs. Disc 1 is the movie on a Blu-ray disc, disc 2 is the special features on a Blu-ray disc, and disc 3 is the movie on DVD. It also included a digital copy code, which apparently is used to download the movie. I'm not sure if there are different versions based on where you buy it.

Someone at High Def Digest said that Warner has already made second printings that DON'T include the bonus DVD. Apparently the HBP DVD combo pack is only a temporary incentive and if you want it you better search around and get it before it's gone. I've never heard of a studio making an "exclusive" this short before though. I did hear that Canada didn't get the bonus DVD in any edition though.

Having the same awful time with this disc that I had with Braveheart -- horrible white line blocking and shimmering with deep greens and blacks. You guys know the scene in TRON where young Bridges is zapped and surrounded by square blocks of white lines? That's what happens to the actors in the Horcrux chapter -- terrible white blocking. I'm taking my player over to my best friends tomorrow - if the same crap doesn't appear on his TV, then I can only assume our TV is a piece if crap. If the same noise does appear - then my giant slab of a BRD is hitting the bricks.

I've tested this movie in 4 HDTV's so far (two Sony LCD's at my home), 1 plasma (Samsung) at my brother's house, another plasma (Panasonic) at the house of one of my friends (professionally calibrated). The outcome has been always the same: The movie looks drab, washed-out, EXTREMELY dark and soft. In short: HBP may be faithful to director's intention however it looks really ugly.
Sorry for my rant but I am extremely disappointed by this BD. I don't want (neither I can) influence other's people opinion. I just wanted to express my personal dissatisfaction. End of rant. PS: I know who Delbonnel is (Not sure how relevant is that, though). I have seen: Across the Universe, Paris, je t'aime, A Very Long Engagement, Amélie, etc. All those films look wonderful; HBP don't. ciao. |

About the reviews: Well it has received mixed reviews. Even Blu-ray.com reviewer acknowledges the fact that it is an exceedingly dark film and that the color is often absent from the palette, plus some other "minor" issues. Blu.ray.com reviewer likes how this BD looks, other reviewers doesn't and some others are in between. It surely is a faithful representation of the theatrical experience, but not everybody is so fond of it. Actually LOTS of people dislike its uber-gloomy look. IMO HBP has a very unpleasant look, that's MY opinion. I don't wanna start an argument with hardcore fans of Harry Potter, It's pointless. I just wanted to voice my thoughts on the PQ and now that I did it, I'm leaving asap before whole Hogwarts tries to lynch me ![]() c ya. Last edited by Octavio; 12-12-2009 at 03:56 AM. |

In my HT, on my projector, (That's the only way I've watched it), it's very amazing picture quality. Fully compelling and beautiful. I enjoyed it fully.
It's sharp and clear not over dark and washed out and nothing resembling "soft". Get a calibrated set and you will see it like it is. -Brian |

Try comparing it to Goblet Of Fire. Maybe that film isn't as dark and murky but it is close. That is 4.5, not this one. Clarity and detail suffer here like one reviewer stated, razor sharp and clear isn't what I'm seeing nor others. Don't get frustrated folks. I also have multiple players and displays. The viewing environment is all so important. I couldn't get a real good picture in absolute dark but things improved alot when turning down the brightness on my display and also watching this with outside light peeping into the room only, no other lighting besides that whatsoever. BUT whatever worked for me may not for you, we all have different displays and players. I do find the persistance by some to get a better picture admirable. Overall? I'd say 4.0 and a decent part of it is 4.25 which is mirroring closer towards that review I've read. And folks, we are only telling you how we are seeing it while viewing. There are plenty not finding this 4.50 material. And please lay off with the calibration hoopla, most have had that done though one also doesn't always get the same results from different doctors or hospitals (which I suppose is scary)! If you have a Kuro or the like and it may take as much, I admit my displays cannot compete but I still get very good results from other BDs. The quite dark and murky film this is, one shouldn't be surprised. Nor am I with the rather negative opinions I've read more so than anything with the PQ on this BD so far. I agree with the viewing room making perhaps a big difference here.
I watch in my HT which has full light control, the only light comes from the projector. In that setting...even the slightest details just above black can be seen and you eyes adjust to the overall darkness of most scenes. Either way,... I'm done debating it. 4 stars, 5 stars,... who cares? I enjoyed it and I hope you are able to enjoy it too. If you're really unhappy about the transfer you can import the laserdisc but if you ask me the Audio on the blu ray is so much better that the LD is not relevant. ![]() http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417741/laserdisc Ha, Ha! By the way... My copy that cost me $11.99 on release day came with the DVD version and the digital copy. So... anyone cranky about the PQ of the Blu at least has options for watching some other transfers. The PQ of those will likely have you reaching for the Blu Ray though. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 12-12-2009 at 03:15 PM. |

I have a question:
Being relatively new to BD, I encountered an issue last night with this Hp film. The dialogue was muted to the point where it was either gone or sounded like it was far, in the distance coming through a tin can. Never experienced something like that. My other BD work fine, and I put in the DVD copy and it worked fine. My player is an off brand my wife picked up on BF (Sansui), it's no frills but no problems until now. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the player, a setting on the player, is there a sound component to the disc that is incompatable with the player, or if it's a bad disc and I should return it to Amazon? Anyone ever have a similar problem? Any suggestions? Thanks! |
