Question PS3 and Video Files

Hey fellow PS3 owners! Got some questions! I happened upon the "Mac and PS3 Users" thread, where DLNA (sp?) was discussed. I downloaded and set up EyeConnect on my Mac, and the thing works like a charm! Only problem is, my video files come up as "Unsupported Format". Now, I'm not totally stupid, so I looked up what kind of video files the PS3 plays, and tried converting the files. I failed. I was using ffmpeg to convert them, even Quicktime Pro, and the PS3 still didn't recognize the files. Do you guys have a program (for a Mac) that you use to make your video files PS3 friendly? I will even accept a long step by step list of things to do, if not a program. Can anybody help? Now that I've had a taste of DLNA (DNLA?), I NEED it. Thanks in advance!

The second one works best for converting video for playback on ps3 imo.
Thanks, but those are both Windows programs. Just in case anyone is interested, I just settled for this fix: I use Quicktime Pro to export the files to H.264 mp4 files (which takes about 2 hours per hour of video), and manually transfer the files to the PS3 via thumbdrive (for some reason the eye connect is still not registering these video files over the DNLA thingy). Oh well, this works fine, just slow.

Isn't that just for MOV files? The files I'm converting are AVI.

Visual hub http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/ awesome, choose the apple TV pre-set or PSP, works like a charm.

Passthrough is when the video codec won't be changed.

Here's the preset i use on ffmpegX,

Video Codec : H264 [.MP4] (x264)

Bitrate: 940 kbit/s (I suggest you try this 940 first to see if it works and then change it.

Video Size : 1280 X 720

OPTIONS : Check only

Use CABAC

Constant Bitrate

i4x4 analysis

Trellis (requires CABAC)

Decode with Quicktime

AVC level : 4.0

ME function : Hexagon

Max. GOP size: 250

QMin 10 QMax 51

Works fine for me.

Zoom! There VideoHub goes! Super fast! Do you have a quality preference? Does the Apple TV setting look as good as the original file? Granted these are all things I shall soon find out myself, but I figured it didn't hurt to ask. Thanks again!

no worries,

Itunes - Tick H.264 - slide to Go Nuts
(in Advanced) Extra FFmpeg flags - Best possible H.264/AVC

SHould be good with those.

I did mp4, ticked H.264, and slid to Go Nuts, and it looked pretty good! Seemed comparable to Quicktime Pro's efforts. I will try your technique next!

when using ps3 video 9, anyone have the issue of getting a message similar to "can't detect audio/video tracks?"

this has been driving me nuts and their forum hasn't been able to provide me with an answer

it seems that this is MAYBE the best out there, but that's isn't saying much given the complete lack of anything available (of course, beggars can't be choosers)
