i have a 5.1 setup
i check every box besides the 7.1 boxes

when i play games = pcm comes out

when i play a bluray my receiver plays the lossless audio codec (dts ma, true hd etc)

games my receiver says: MULTICH
movies my receiver says: DTS MA or DOLBY TRUE HD

i have a ps3 slim so i set my hdmi audio out to bitstream and let my receiver do all the audio decoding.

when i had my ps3 FAT i set my hdmi audio out to LINEAR PCM, selected all the codecs besides 7.1 (as noted above) and my receiver always read MULTICH as the ps3 did all the audio decoding

Ditto, except I think my 7.1 boxes are checked. I just assumed the 606 matrixes 7.1 to 5.1, but I could be wrong.
