Default Need some insight

Hey all, i found out today by mistake that my parentals purchased this HTiB for me http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...theater+system

Now what im asking is, is this the best bang for the buck based on what i already have which is just my tv, ps3, and xbox 360, the mom told me if i wanted a different one it could be done, so just looking for some insight, as far as i'm concerned it seems pretty nice and has everything i could need, but if someone can find something that's the same price or less that's better than lemme see

Yes, that system will probably be OK for your needs. The speakers can be upgraded, too. Some drawbacks I see is that it only has 2 HDMI inputs and NO component inputs and NO digital audio inputs ( coaxial/optical ), so you'll be limited to only 2 input devices. You didn't mention what your TV signal input is - cable, satellite, OTA, etc. If you're using a set top box, you'll have to make a decision as to WHICH 2 of your 3 components you want to hook into the receiver's HDMI connections. Personally, I would go with an Onkyo HT-S6200, if that's an option for you. It is similar in price, but has 4 HDMI inputs, 2 component inputs, 4 digital audio inputs, and several features not found on the Yamaha, including 130 watts per channel x 7 channels and a 290 watt sub. If not, I would suggest the next Yamaha system in their lineup, the YHT-791. Sears has it in stock, as well. It is more expensive, of course, but offers 4 HDMI inputs, as well as component inputs.

Ok, link works now...........
I totally agree with HiDefRev. I'll almost bet money that the Yammy won't have enough inputs for you.

well thanks for the help guys, after xmas i'll prolly return it and get the Onkyo, that's what i had requested originally but they seemed to think that 7.1 was to much for my jail cell sized room, but it couldn't hurt right?

You can use a 7.1 system as a 5.1 setup, if that works better for you.

Well i feel like i'd be wasting the other two speakers, does Onkyo offer a setup with a similar receiver that will meet my needs in a 5.1 setup

Thumbs up Onkyo

The Onkyo can be configured as either a 5.1 or 7.1 system.

That's what the last guy mentioned, which i don't completely understand, the whole home theatre thing i'm just getting into, so wouldn't i just be not using two of the speakers included? or would i double up on the fronts or something?

This is what I have. I have a 5.1 set up, but the receiver can handle 7.1.

You can save the extra two speakers for backups, or you can use them in another room. I'd just set the system up as 7.1 in the room. It doesn't matter what size the room is, as long as the speakers are calibrated right. Audyssey will do it right. Those two speakers aren't really costing you anything, anyway. Just enjoy, instead of worrying about them.........
