Whoever thought that The Hangover would have gotten a GG nomination? Very happy to see QT got a bunch of noms with IB. My question is where the heck is District 9? I'm shocked it only received a nom for writing.

Julia Roberts for Duplicity?...Really?....I didn't see that movie b/c it looked horrible...Sometimes I think people get nominated just for their past performances.

Wow Avatar for best drama? I heard the story sucks and is only an eye candy movie. But this is the Golden Globes so yeah. Hopefully Dexter wins all the categories it's in and Michal C hall for his role as Dexter.

Sherlock Holmes is also not a comedy it's more action with some comedy thrown in their but not a full blown comedy.

Yeah, I'm pulling for Michael C. Hall and Quentin Tarantino for Inglorious Basterds.

Best motion picture, drama

"Avatar"

"The Hurt Locker"

"Inglourious Basterds"

"Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire"

"Up in the Air"
Not surprised to see Up in the Air, Precious, or The Hurt Locker here at all. The only ones that I'm surprised are Inglorious Basterds and Avatar. While I feel that Inglorious Basterds was really good, I think there were better choices. I'm also a little surprised that Avatar has already been nominated. I'm excited to see it Friday, but I wonder how much is riding on visual effects over story telling.

My pick at the moment: Up in the Air (will see this Christmas day, but I believe it's the favorite)

Quote:
Best motion picture, musical or comedy

"(500) Days of Summer"

"The Hangover"

"It's Complicated"

"Julie and Julia"

"Nine"
Great to see (500) Days of Summer get a mention. I actually haven't seen the other 4 nominations, but I would expect Julie and Julia and The Hangover to be other favorites as well.

My pick: (500) Days of Summer

Quote:
Best actor in a motion picture, drama

Jeff Bridges, "Crazy Heart"

George Clooney, "Up in the Air"

Colin Firth, "A Single Man"

Morgan Freeman, "Invictus"

Tobey Maguire, "Brothers"
I actually think this is a really strong category. I've heard nothing but good things about the performances from Bridges, Clooney, Firth, or Freeman. The only question I have is Tobey Maguire for "Brothers", I haven't heard much about it and I personally would have rather seen the nomination go to Ben Foster, Jeremy Renner, or Sam Rockwell (for The Messenger, The Hurt Locker, and Moon, respectively).

My pick for the moment: Colin Firth, "A Single Man"

Quote:
Best actress in a motion picture, drama

Emily Blunt, "The Young Victoria"

Sandra Bullock, "The Blind Side"

Helen Mirren, "The Last Station"

Carey Mulligan, "An Education"

Gabourey Sidibe, ""Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire"
This is going to be one of the toughest categories, in my opinion. While I believe it's Sidibe's award to lose, it will be interesting to see how voters react to Bullock (who deserves this spot) and Helen Mirren who gives the supposed performance of a lifetime in "The Last Station".

My pick: "Gabourey Sidibe, "Precious"

Quote:
Best performance by an actor in a motion picture, comedy

Daniel Day-Lewis, "Nine"

Matt Damon, "The Informant"

Robert Downey Jr., "Sherlock Holmes"

Joseph Gordon-Levitt "(500) Days of Summer"

Michael Stuhlbarg, "A Serious Man"
How great of a list is this? You get Daniel Day-Lewis, Matt Damon, Robert Downey, and two new comers in Gordon-Levitt and Stuhlbarg. I'll probably see "A Serious Man" this week, so I'll see how good his performance is. At the moment, I don't think Damon or Downey Jr. are in contention. I think this is a three horse race between Day-Lewis, Gordon-Levitt, and Stuhlbarg.

My pick: To close to call.

Quote:
Best actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy

Sandra Bullock, "The Proposal"

Marion Cotillard, "Nine"

Julia Roberts, "Duplicity"

Meryl Streep, "It's Complicated"

Meryl Streep, "Julie and Julia"
Another strong category, minus Julia Roberts for Duplicity (I mean, really?). I think Streep could be hurt for being nominated in two categories, which opens the door for Cotillard and Bullock.

My pick: To close to call.

Quote:
Best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a motion picture

Penelope Cruz, "Nine"

Vera Farmiga, "Up in the Air"

Anna Kendrick, "Up in the Air"

Mo'Nique, "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire"

Julianne Moore, "A Single Man"
A former Oscar winner from last year in Cruz I think hurts her chances. Having two actresses from the same film in Farmiga and Kendrick will hurt both their chances, just ask Amy Adams and Viola Davis from Doubt. I've heard good things about Moore's performance in A Single Man, but this is also Mo'Nique's award to lose.

My pick: Mo'Nique

Quote:
Best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a motion picture

Matt Damon, "Invictus"

Woody Harrelson, "The Messenger"

Christopher Plummer, "The Last Station"

Stanley Tucci, "The Lovely Bones"

Christoph Walz, "Inglourious Basterds"
Another tough category. The only immediate throwout I can say is Damon for Invictus. His performance was good, but can't compete with these other performances. I've seen Harrelson's and Walz's performances, and would prefer if Harrelson won. However, I feel that Hollywood would give Walz the go ahead because he was in a Tarantino flick. Plummer and Tucci have given great performances from what I've heard, but don't know how they play into the race.

My pick: Christoph Walz

Quote:
Best animated feature film

"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs"

"Coraline"

"Fantastic Mr. Fox"

"The Princess and the Frog"

"Up"
Special shout out to Fantastic Mr. Fox. But this is an easy one.

My pick: Up

Quote:
Best screenplay, motion picture

Neill Blomkamp, "District 9"

Terri Tatchell and Mark Boal, "The Hurt Locker"

Nancy Meyers, "It's Complicated"

Jason Reitman, "Up in the Air"

Sheldon Turner and Quentin Tarantino, "Inglourious Basterds"
How great is it for District 9 to get nominated? That makes me absolutely ecstatic, as well a nomination for The Hurt Locker. Inglorious Basterds would win before those two, but I think Up in the Air would win this one.

My pick: Jason Reitman, "Up in the Air"

Quote:
Best director, motion picture

Kathryn Bigelow, "The Hurt Locker"

James Cameron, "Avatar"

Clint Eastwood, "Invictus"

Jason Reitman, "Up in the Air"

Quentin Tarantino, "Inglourious Basterds"
Another fantastic list of names, in my opinion. Eastwood I feel is out of the running because this isn't his strongest effort. Other than that, I could see any one of these four winning. I think James Cameron is certainly a dark horse due to the technical achievement of Avatar. It's just a question of whether voters will select him for that feat over others for good performances, story telling, etc. Me personally? I would love to see Kathryn Bigelow win for The Hurt Locker. I think Tarantino will one someday... just not today. The only one standing in Bigelow's way is Reitman, who seems to be loved by everyone in Hollywood.

My pick: Kathryn Bigelow (I'm rooting for her)

I don't get how Cristoph Waltz got thrown into supporting actor when he was in the movie more than anybody else...

Sherlock Holmes is also not a comedy it's more action with some comedy thrown in their but not a full blown comedy.
Hmmm Im kinda doubting that as Ebert loved it! Said he enjoyed it as much as he did Star Wars in 1977. Now that's saying something!
