Wow, I don't want to be mean since I am a Christian, but I would be VERY surprised if this 51 disc ever came into existence. It is just HD DVD propaganda to use against Blu-Ray's space advantage, and this, combined with Universal lying in Japan, shows how desperate HD DVD is getting, and I am finding their ways of clinging on to their life.... distasteful at best.

It's lunacy to assume that if HD DVD won the war and had 10s of millions of HD DVD players in homes around the world, they wouldn't use the 51 gig discs for movies because of 100,000 early adopters getting screwed.
Of course at that point, once it's shown that they lied(they'll lie and say early players will be supported always), it won't really matter. This is assuming HD DVD even lives long enough. Kind of like the Xbox 360... they start off promising that all games will be supported without need for a hard drive, then use the core pack to expand the userbase. After the userbase is attained, announce hard drive needed games. Early core users need to buy a hard drive. Xbox owners all say they're happy since games will be better. Just like HD DVD owners would then say they're happy cause HD DVD will be better. It's essentially getting raped and then cheering over it. |

I was actually working retail with the 360 launch, and well, the numbers of Premium versus Core were a bit sad. Everyone wanted the white box. |

Short of them offering some appologetic exchange program/upgrade I will not be Buying another HDDVD player because they decide that 30gb's is all of a sudden "not enough" when they touted for months it was
![]() This is bad news for HDDVD. Great news for Blu-ray! And those HDDVD zealots had the audacity to say Blu-ray spec is "Incomplete" Pfft, atleast they still play the damn movies! I dount these 51gb discs ever see the light of day, otherwise Toshiba/HDDVD just *****slapped all their ealrier adopters, who got them this far. I for one, would at that point be done like I said, barring they generously subsidize an upgrade. |

Someone cut David Vaughn off in an earlier post, but I want everyone here to see just how badly they are grasping at straws on this news...

I don't really see triple-layer HD DVD's being needed for movies, but for computer storage it will be beneficial. I also don't see how you can expect hardware upgrades to be necessary, as HD DVD 15GB/30GB have consistently proven to be more then enough, no matter how much Blu-ray fans wish it wasn't so. When is BD-J profile 1.1 going to be mandated......or 2.0... Are existing Blu-ray players going to support that... Don't all Blu-ray players have Ethernet ports... Please someone who is a member there remind him of the changes they had to make for Transformers to fit on their shitty disc. |

how are you gonna feel when you have to buy another player. profile 1.1 or 2.0 ...you will have to buy another player. a firmware could fix a layer issue, however a profile 1.1 or 2.0 a firmware will not fix it. im a bd owner but theres no need to spin and post half truths. i thought we were a little more grown up then that...guess not ![]() |

you will have to buy a new bd player. the reality is hd dvd may suck[i dont think so] but lets say it does. the fact is, the bda must find away to get the players prices down to hd dvd leval. look guys we are passionate about this stuff. we love this stuff,i loved beta over vhs. but look who won out. why, price and they could fit long movies on one tape. i know this is a different thing. the point is this is not about passion its about making money. both sides see a goldmine down the road so both sides will say anything to get there the bda does this as well as the hd dvd side does. this bashing of hd dvd and hd dvd bashing blu-ray is pointless. at this point in time anyside can win.i think warners bros. will in fact turn the tables and that we wont know till it happens meanwhile enjoy hdm because even if one side wins it doesnt mean it will be the next gen in hdm.the longer this war goes on if gives the downloading side to get there stuff together. i for one dont want to see that. ![]() |
