Default I noticed in stores Blu-ray prices are dropping - is it because of Christmas?

Or will we continue to see these prices stay around this range of under 20 dollars (I know online is where to buy these) but I am thinking of taking some of the DVDS I have and have/will upgrade to blu ray and just take them to moviestop and trade them in and get more blus

It's because of Christmas and studios driving consumers to upgrade, prices will go back up a bit once Christmas sales end. I'd look for catalogs to continue to be $10-30 and new releases to be $25-30.

That's the only thing I would recommend MovieStop for. Their prices are way higher than anywhere else, so trade in DVDs (or blus you don't want anymore) to get blus for free. Problem is they don't give you great prices on the DVDs, so you really have to trade a lot to get anything out of it. I leave it up to you to decide whether the price they offer you is worth it to you, or whether you want to explore other avenues to get more out of your DVDs.

I think all that is true but also I believe that it is just a natural progression of the format. If they do go back up after the holidays, I don't think it will be the same as before. Maybe a bit higher, but not like it was before.

Last Jan and Feb amazon had a pretty good sale going on. I remember buying a lot of blus at that time and then I ran out of cash.

Look at the new titles being released on the 29th, just a few days after Christmas. Paranormal Activity, Jennifer's Body, A Perfect Getaway, etc. at over $25. Things are unfortunately going back to normal.

Studios are lowering prices to distributors on backstock, hoping to clear them out for the holiday season. As Blu-ray goes more mainstream in the retail space it will have a wide range of price points, just like dvd.

I know prices will jump back up after the holidays... But I hope the Disney $10 coupons, $10 MiRs, and $3 on line coupons still hang around.

I hope they have $10 Disney coupons for the 2 Toy Story movies set to come out in March. Maybe even save 10 if you buy both like with UP and Monsters Inc
