Default Top 10 Sci-Fi Films of the Decade (Techland)

Listed below are the top 10 sci-fi films of the decade from techland.com (I found the link via cnn.com):

10) 28 Days Later

9) Minority Report

8) Star Trek

7) Wall-EEEE

6) Children of Men

5) Primer

4) The Fountain

3) Solaris

2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

1) A.I.

http://techland.com/10-28-days-later/

So, what does everyone think? Please comment on each of the films and even list films that you think should be on the list instead.

As for me, I think the list is actually pretty good. Solaris is one my favorite sci-fi films ever and is greatly underrated (I think it is much better than the Tarkovsky version). I have seen all but Primer and the new Star Trek. My only complaint is with my favorite film, The Fountain being on the list as it is NOT sci-fi.

Yeah...I don't think 28 Days Later is sci-fi, either. Not sure about a few others.

I definitely think District 9 should be on the list.

I haven't seen a few of those, but given their company (and that POS A.I. being #1), I don't cosider them to a solid recomendation. Anyway, that's a bad enough list that it would take too long to finish criticizing, so I give up.

I'm not at all a fan of The Fountain or ESotSM, but I definitely like Minority Report. It's one of my most anticipated Blu's. Also, I love that Star Trek is on there. And Wall-E. What's up with the extra E's?

I haven't seen D9 so I can't comment. You bashed the list, which is perfectly fine, but if you choose to do so you should at least provide reasons for your distaste.

All good choices, although I haven't seen 3, 4, or 5; A.I. is good pick for #1. I was going to throw in The Matrix, and then saw it was released in 1999; old age coming quick!

I didn't like Eternal Sunshine the first time I saw it, but then I thought about it and saw it a few more times and now I think it is an excellent film. Minority Report I think is a good film but not quite a great film. As for the extra e's, I'm not a fan of Wall-E and it was an ode to the annoying wall-eeee and eeeeeve that are used so often in the film.

haha. Well, there is no doubt you need to see The Fountain (which has been a very hot topic on here lately) and Solaris (which nobody but me seems to have actually seen on here). The Fountain certainly takes a few viewings--I would recommend checking out the thread on here regarding its meaning after viewing it the first time, and then watching it a second time. Solaris is also complex and a film I know well, haven seen both film versions multiple times and having read the book. Steven Soderbergh directed it and Clooney starred in it.

I'm interested to hear what ppl have to say about Primer, as I have not seen it and supposedly it was made on a $7,000 budget?

I love Eternal, District 9 should be on that list for sure as it is a great sci fi film. Star Trash should not be on the list for for reasons I have stated elsewhere. Minority Report was "ok" not great by any means and I have not seen 28 Days. Everything else I am good with, but it would be in a different order.

Will do. I have heard good things about The Fountain, and I have been meaning to see Solaris ever since Mitsubishi advertised a still of it in their ads for their 82" rear-projection TV several years ago.

Not a fan of Minority Report - thought it was weak. I would replace it with Moon, Sam Rockwell is far better an actor than "couch jumper". I have Solaris (2002) as a DVD and think it is also an excellent sci-fi film.

Primer is in Netflix Queue. I prefer Tarv's Solaris but I do enjoy them both as I own them on SD but will upgrade.

The list is very weak listing The Fountain as a Sci-Fi Film. Equilibrium is not on that list?! Star Trek should be ranked higher.

The Fountain doesn't strike me as sci-fi but it a very well made film... Happy to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on the list.

I'd say that 28 Days Later is more horror than sci-fi, but to each their own and still a terrific film nonetheless. ETotSM is my second film ever, so glad to see it's on this list. Star Trek I loved and will probably be my top rated 2009 blu, and I'm shocked to see someone else who has actually HEARD of Solaris, AND knows there was a 70's original!
