Star Trek
Terminator: Salvation

Best Actor
Brad Pitt - Inglourious Basterds
Jackie Earle Haley - Watchmen
Christian Bale - Terminator: Salvation
Sharlto Copley - District 9
Chris Pine - Star Trek

Best VFX
Star Trek
District 9
Watchmen
Terminator: Salvation
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Best Musical Score

These are in no particular order and are based on films I actually saw (duh).

I'm going to fill this in as time goes on. There are a couple films I have yet to see.

I would consider Waltz the lead Actor, do you consider Pitt lead Actor? he had far less screen time...

I consider everyone in Inglourious Basterds a supporting actor. It was more of an ensemble cast where everyone has an equal importance to the story. I think a character's importance to the story is what defines the lead actor, not screen time.

I was thinking about this again. In order to keep the movies nominated in check, there may need to be some guidelines, at least for best picture. Maybe require it to have a certain rating on a certain site that measures critical reception. Maybe over 80% ON Rottentomatoes, or over 75 on metacritic. This way we will not get a mass of people nominating unworthy films like TF2 for best picture. Just an idea, as I know how most people feel about critics, but I think we need some way to thin the herd of movies that can be nominated.

I agree some sort of filter would be nice

Great idea and I agree with the majority that it's tough to see all the films nominated in the theatre. So we'll wait until the time is right.

Unworthy is in the eye of the beholder. How would a movie be measured?

Maybe doing a series of polls might help thin out a large group of nominations. That way every movie nominated has an equal shot.

I don't think that many people will vote for stuff like TF2, and if they do, then so be it.

EDIT: Also, what about a best animated or visual effects categories?

I'm going to have to agree with MarkJ here. We've done plenty of lists in the past, and we have actually gotten some great end results. I don't want to put restrictions on what is nominated and what isn't, because who is right to say what you can nominate and can't? Granted, I really disliked Terminator Salvation and wouldn't put it anywhere near the Top 5. I'm confident enough that the members here will be up some good nominees.

Here pretty soon I'm going to put a thread that talks about all the movies and performances that you need to see and why. I'm still waiting on a PM from Idioteque on some guidelines that we're working out, and once that happens the official thread will arrive. So keep your eyes peeled.

This is also why I put the Official Blockbuster thread up. For movies such as Transformers and Terminator to fall under, along with others such as Star Trek or Public Enemies.
