The first 3-D movie announcements?

For those of us who are eagerly looking forward to 3D for the Home Theater environment, I've read that studios may make their first title announcements in January, 2010 at CES. So I'm curious to gain opinions on what the first movies will be in 2010, and what you think might hit in 2011. As well, how much do you think the first 3d HDTVs, BD players and discs will cost, and what will be the price of extra glasses? Here is my guess...

For movies in 2010, 1) the expected half-hour trial discs and Sony's pre-taped sports coverage; 2) Avatar; 3) Toy Story 3; 4) Cloudy...;

For 2011 look for everything released so far, and all 3D movies to be released in 2010.

Cost of TVs to be perhaps $300 to $500 more than the current 2D models. BD players to be perhaps $75 to $100 more than the current prices, and discs to cost anywhere from $5 to $10 more than 2D blu-ray. BD players may come with one or two pairs of glasses, and extras may cost between $75 and $100 per pair.

Of course, not everyone will want 3D for the home, but developers are betting big dollars that there's a huge consumer market champing at the bit for it. The first hurdle of unified specs has been cleared, and now companies must find a profitable sales point that will be acceptable to the mainstream public. I'm looking for this to begin happening in earnest in 2011.

If you're also interested in 3D Home Theater, feel free to give your opinion.

I think the first 3D blu-rays we'll see will be Avatar, Toy Story 3, Christmas Carol and probably another rerelease of Polar Express. Possibly with Carol and Polar packaged together.

75-100 bucks for extra glasses? I wont dismiss this until I see it but this is not an upgrade I plan to make.. being forced to wear cheap glasses to watch a film is just not my thing

What, Warner and Disney packaged together?...Um, no.

And PX can only come out at Christmas, so that one's a given but won't be out till Nov. '10.
Now, Dreamworks trying to get into the game and grab attention with their delayed "Monsters vs. Aliens", and a promise that they'll do some Really Neat Stuff for "How to Train Your Dragon", OTOH...

I am looking forward to this since this would be a blast for HT! I want to see what projector options will be available (even though I wont be making a purchase for a few years at least) for when I upgrade my RS1.

I am excited to see what 3D has in store for us in 2010. Hopefully CES will bring to light just how awesome it's going to be. Can't wait to hear more!

I wear glasses. Trying to figure out how to put on two pair at a time fails the common sense test.

Somebody needs to figure this thing out. Every viewer would need a pair of glasses - something that simply doesn't make sense.

Too much "gimmick" in this thing to invest thousands...

Furthermore prescription 3D glasses are also planned.

Blu-Dog, I'm not saying you're wrong in your outlook, but a lot of movie goers have steered past that.

Needless to say, there are certainly people who don't like watching 3D in theaters because they have to wear the 3D lenses over their glasses, and it's proven uncomfortable for them. But statistics would seem to indicate that for most people it's an acceptable part of the 3D package.

If I read correctly, I believe that every movie that has been released in today's 3D has grossed at least $100 million. And the 3D version of any particular movie far outsells its 2D print. Obviously, a lot of people are paying the extra money for 3D, and an awful lot of people wear glasses, so the math isn't hard to do here. And if I read correctly that some 50 films are going to be released in 3D in 2010, all using Real3D glasses, this can only mean that customers aren't rejecting the technology.

Someday we'll be able to watch 3D without glasses, but until then I believe that the plastic frames that will come with the new 3D BD players will work just fine for most people. And they should be a lot more comfortable than those paper red/green gimmicks that we have for Home Theater right now.

according to the director of avatar,when its comes to blu-ray ,he says MAYBE no 3d.

Just like in the theaters, the glasses will fit over your own. There will be discounted multipacks as well.

I may be completely off the mark here, but I'd guess the first generation of 3-D TVs will be anything up to $1000 more than regular TVs. And BD players will be about $500 more.

From what I read, the first release which will be ~May will be 2d only, but there will be another release toward the end of 2010 which will have the 3d version.

I doubt it, the new players will have to compete with the PS3, which is already confirmed to be compatible; as for the TVs, maybe, but I think the extra cost will be mostly in the glasses and synch device since the internal tech is the same as existing panels.

A friend of mine was telling me that James Cameron wants to go back and make Titanic 3D. I didn't think it was possible to go back and re-render 2D films in 3D. Does anyone know if its true?
