Default Receiver: Additional Cost for Cheaper Prices?

I have decided, after someone kindly pointed out my mis perception that the Denon receiver lines were non-HDMI 1.3 compliant, to buy the Denon 4308ci receiver. Of course, I walked into a couple of specialty stores and tried to "haggle" for a lower price but they all wanted above two thousand. Now, I understand MSRP is about two thousand five hundred dollars but being the shopper that I am I found a website that had the receiver for a little less than one thousand nine hundred. I mentioned this to some of the sales people and they said that those places could probably afford to do so because they are not certified resellers.

For those of you interested, here is a link to that website.

My question is should I care about whether or not they are an authorized retailer or not? Would not the one year standard warranty cover me if there should be any sort of defect in the model? What benefit would there be to me to pay a couple hundred extra dollars to buy from a specialty audio and video store?

Your input and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. Just curious, anyone know any websites where I can possibly purchase B&W 680 series speakers? Would buying speakers online even be prudent?

Look around. I got my yamaha $250 under the msrp from a unautherized deal & picked-up a 5 year warranty for $99. Most manufacturer will not honor there warrnaty if you get something from a Unautherized deal, Monster is one.

Yes buying speaker online is fine that where I got all mine & saved about $650 & got them direct from Harman.

In the upper right corner where they state the "Condition" it says its brand new with 1 year USA warranty. I am not quite sure what that means. Does it mean the manufacturer, Denon, will honor the warranty? Or is this website feeding me a placebo? They are not on the authorized e-tailers on Denon's USA website.

Denon will not honor the warranty, although it does "come" with a warranty. Check Denon's website for authorized internet retailers. They will not update it for free if you send it in or cover repairs on it. Fotoconnections may be able to repair it, but would you trust them? I wouldn't. Plus check how much you have to pay for tax and shipping, because you wont have to pay shipping at a retail store. If it is like $150 for shipping, that brings it back above $2k anyways.

Thanks sokrman14. Final price was still below 1.9k but I did some research. These guys were just too good to be true. If there was a warranty, it was, as you said, with the company. Plus they put in a lot of fake positive comments about themselves all over the internet and have several fronts from which they operate their business.

For those of you who want to be safe and secure about those places that sound too good to be true, use this link:

http://www.resellerratings.com/

It will give you honest ratings from real users because they weed out the fake trollers by questioning ratings and asking for proof of verification.

It also doesn't help when their main address is a P.O. Box. Thanks for the help guys, I think I will be picking this up from a b&m store.
