Default Ea sports shutting down servers for older titles

There's gonna be some unhappy gamers out there. lol

Personally I think it's bullsh*t how they're shutting down the servers for the '09 games, but hey...not like the consumers have any say. lol

Quote:
The following is an important update regarding online service for some older EA titles.

Servers for the games listed below will be shut down on the indicated dates. You may continue to play the games online up until these dates, but certain community programs may begin to close down prior to the shutdown dates.

All of us at EA would like to thank you for your valued participation in our online gaming community and hope that your enthusiasm for these games extends to our current lineup and beyond.

If you have further questions about your account or the shut down of these services, please visit http://support.ea.comhome.php?p_sid=9TYsobRj.

Thank you,
Electronic Arts

I don't see why the media is talking all about it all of a sudden. I mean, EA shuts down their servers all the time and I don't think anyone has talked about their past shut down announcements. Then again it is business and it is pretty expensive to keep dedicated servers up and running 24/7, but for the '09 games? Come on!

Why are they shutting down the '09 titles. Hell, even the '08. I feel bad for the dude who can't afford the '10 title of his choice and is stuck playing his '07 title. Damn.

Yep, it's complete bullsh*t they are shutting down 09 games! This is just their way of forcing you to upgrade to the current year for the title.

I edited the 1st post to separate them so it's easier to tell which games from '09 are affected. I'm guessing some of them that aren't listed as PS3 (such as Fight Night Round 3) have already been shut down as far as the online servers go.

I don't have any of those games, but wow that sucks for anyone who buys and keeps sports titles that come out every year, and for anyone who can't afford to buy the newest sports game.

It's insane that they're shutting down '09 titles so early into '10!

Well just be glad that they're not pulling the plug on Burnout Paradise. They would have to be insane in order to do that, considering the amount of people that still play it, us included.

Surprised they were open this long. they used to shut servers down as soon as the next seasons game came out. You have to think about from their stand point too though. 09 has been out since 08. It does suck for those that cannot update, but how many people are playing any of these really?

for these sports titles..they should just make the "new" installations DLC..its basically the same game anyway with an updated roster and little tweaks.

if they did that then there would be no need to shut down servers..and for those that can't afford or don't buy the latest titles, they probobly don't play online anyway

That's what happens when you have dedicated servers vs p2p.

That's actually a good idea, but not from their point of view, I'm sure. I'm sure they rake in WAY more money for the newest iteration of Madden than they pay out in server fees, but I could be wrong with that.

I personally they they should keep the servers up until two more years.

example:

2009 will be shut down six months after Madden '11 comes out.
2010 will be shut down six months after Madden '12 comes out, and so on.

I wonder what happens to the on-line trophies for people that get the game after the servers are taken down. And even more sketch is what about the people that have the list loaded onto their PS3, but don't have those trophies.

Are both groups screwed out of a platinum? Or will those trophies disappear for those that don't have them and be bonus trophies for those that do.

By shutting down the servers for older titles will this make the newer ones run better/quicker/faster? If so, this is the best news ever.

I don't know why anyone would want to play an older sports game online though. Garnett is still in Minnesota wahoooo! Just download one of the million old school roster in 2k10. Great game.

Well it's not JUST that. Personally I haven't liked any Madden football game since '05. And I WISH they had that for PS3, not even to play online, but to just play it.

I liked it much better without all this "superstar" and "franchise" bullsh*t.

The "Two Minute Drill" was awesome in the '05 version, but they keep changing everything up and they end up ruining the game from what I enjoyed it.

Hopefully I'll one day get a backwards compatible ps3 so I can play that 05 version.
