Default Leno Back to 11:30

Jay Leno is apparently moving back to the 11:30 timeslot following the Winter Olympics. It isn't known if he will be taking over The Tonight Show or what is happening to Conan O'Brien.

I was thinking that their intentions were to have a new type of show with the new time slot, but it is pretty much the same show.

Guessing that Conan isn't doing all that well?

Wow. Maybe Jay's monologue will get better later. I think (if true) they are pulling the plug too early on Conan. It took a couple of years for Craig Ferguson to get into a good routine and I won't miss an episode of his show.

Easily the best late night guy

Here's what Nikki Finke is reporting:

Quote:
BREAKING NEWS! UPDATE: I've learned that NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker flew out to Los Angeles last night to take his about-to-be Comcast bosses Brian Roberts and Steve Burke today on a "meet-and-greet" tour of NBC Universal's West Coast. "He's doing breakfasts and lunches with teams out there," a source tells me. "He arrived last night for a day of meetings." He will fly back and then attend the zucker1_1all-important affiliates' board meeting scheduled for January 21st (after, NBC sources say, it was postponed from December). But against this backdrop, the Internet is working overtime spreading reports that The Jay Leno Show is about to be drastically changed or yanked completely. That's because the affiliates are upset about Leno as the lead-in to their local newscasts, most of whose ratings have suffering because of Jay's late night numbers in 10 PM primetime. Those news shows have been cash cows for the O&Os and affiliates whose general managers are now spitting mad these profit centers are threatened. In fact, NBC just now took the unusual step of issuing a statement about the FTV Live report saying Leno's show will be cancelled without at first issuing a straight denial, which came later from the network. Here's the first NBC statement:
Quote:
“Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay’s show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance.”
leno debut photosFrom the first day it was conceived through the first day it aired (photo right by Jim Stevenson) and for months afterwards, there's been speculation about what might happen to The Jay Leno Show given the affiliates' anger and the critics' drubbing. Among the changes chattered about, 1) It would no longer be 5 days a week and reduce to Mon-Wed-Fri or even less frequent, 2) It would become a 1/2 hour show paired with another comedy, 3) It would move to 11 PM and affiliates would move news to 10 PM, and, of course 4) It's toast. Hollywood is betting that the decision will be reached either to reduce the number of Leno's shows per week or, even more drastically, take the show off the air entirely. The timing for change is expected after NBC's Vancouver Winter Olympics uber-coverage from February 12-28. Already, the network has shown it wants to return to hour-long drama for the 10 PM slot by ordering development of several high-profile, high-priced shows. These include one from JJ Abrams and another from Jerry Bruckheimer as well as a rebooted Prime Suspect and Rockford Files, plus a Warner Bros TV project, and another high-level show yet to be determined. I could say all sorts of snarky things here about Zucker for presiding over this disaster. But I'd just be repeating myself.

I have heard that they might be replacing Conan because of ratings, and I agree that it's way too soon. I don't really watch any of those shows regularly, but Conan is my favorite host of all of them. Hopefully he still gets a prime slot somewhere.

I thought NBC was trying to get Seinfeld to take over for Conan.

Poor Conan. I like his show a lot.

Yeah, Jimmy Fallon needs to go. His show has no redeeming qualities at all; his monologue is garbage, his ad-libbing sucks when his jokes inevitably fail, and his interviews are the least personable I have ever seen on TV.

The corporate line. Nothing about Conan just Leno losing his job period or adjusting the current show. TMZ (first post) has been pretty on target lately in their reporting.

Is "The Jay Leno Show" getting the axe? Rumors are ripe today that the former late night king of talk will be losing his 10 p.m. berth on NBC.

But an NBC spokesperson tells ET: "Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay's show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance."

NBC executives will be addressing this issue in more detail on Saturday when they meet with reporters at the Television Critics Association. Check back for updates.

I can't stand Fallon either, but my roommate loves him and watches his show every night. He is constantly telling me I should watch but whenever I do it's horrible.

Fallon tries though. He has moments of brilliance surrounded by really bad moments.

Greatness:

Getting Michael Emerson to read Little Bo Peep as Ben Linus
The Muppets singing 12 Days of Christmas
Mark-Paul Gosselaar appearing as Zac Morris

They shouldnt axe Conan.

It took a long time for Leno to find his legs when he took over from Carson. (no small task)

IF... Conan gets the 10:00 slot, I'd be happy.
