Default How to tell BD-25 and BD50 from the movie?

Hi,

I am new here. I just pre-ordered a PS3 in HK successfully and I will get it the same time as US, 17th Nov

Frankly, I want PS3 mainly for watching BD. As you may know, there is no authorized import BD player in HK. PS3 is our only hope.

Luckily, I got my order confirmed and I am just waiting for it.

Today, I bought the MI pack. However, I did not see any spec in the box telling the BD capacity, nor what the source is (MPEG2/VC-1).

Can anyone tell me how I can get this kind of info officially, or informally?

Thanks!

Clive

You can't tell from the box. You just have to go through review sites to know for sure. Or you can look for the threads here.

Unless of course you have a BD burner drive for your PC and a compatible software. Then you can find out the storage capacity and the codec for both audio and video.

Regardless, the capacity of the disc is not important so long as you're happy with the whole audio visual experience the disc gives you.

You can tell from visual examination: the BD50 is kind of "cloudy" with more "rainbow" effects looking at it. Seriously.

O noe, Peter! Now we'll hear FUD about THX finding BD-50s "cloudy" and full of moiré when examining them!

Mmm... maybe I could add a BD-50 spec, etc. to the Apocalist, altho it might make it more visually crowded than it already is! Anyone have a complete run of the BD-50 titles, etc?

Edit: I'll take a look at The One's link

Guys, on the disc's play side, if you look around the center hole at the start of the data area, you'll see what looks like a barcode. One barcode for single layer, two barcodes for dual layer.

This is correct... but Peter is correct too... the single layer discs are more directly reflective and the dual layer discs aren't.
