Default subwoofer delayed turn off??

So I just got my Onkyo HT-S6200 system 2 nights ago. Last night, I noticed that when I turned off the receiver (red light standby comes on) the subwoofer still stayed on (blue light indicator). I had to wait about 5 mins and then the light finally turned red.

I unplugged/replugged everything. I reset the machine to factory default settings, but still the same thing. I could've sworn the first night I was tinkering with the system that both turned off at the same time, no delay..

Anyone with the same system able to verify? I couldn't find any on Google about this.

Is my sub defective?

No that's normal. Your sub powers on and off independently of your receiver being on or off. It comes on when it receives a bass signal and it goes back into standby mode after it goes a predetermined amount of time without receiving a signal. So after you shut your receiver off the sub will sit there until that amount of time has passed without receiving a signal and then it'll go into standby mode.

I think the sub is suppost to do that , Before I made both my Polk subs Passive , They would do the same thing . The amps would stay on for A short time & Then go into standby mode .

While not THAT system, my paradigm ulta-cube also has that feature... not sure what purpose it serves, but it does not come out of standby mode and shut off until i believe 10 minutes after it stops receiving a signal. I assume this is so when you pause a movie etc...for instance, the sub is not constantly switching on and off, which i guess could cause strain.

Most subs have "auto" sensing. Once the sub amp doesn't detect any signal, then it will turn off. Sounds like yours is working fine.

Ahhh okay. I guess this is normal subwoofer behavior.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention that closely the first night...It was probably delay turning off as well during that time.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I've heard a few reports here and there of subwoofers going into standby while a movie was playing. Usually you'll find out the movie in question was something with little or no bass though.
