Indeed, I had the opportunity to attend a special 'Transformers' media event with Paramount late last week, and the question was asked almost immediately -- why no Dolby TrueHD or uncompressed PCM? The studio's answer was that due to space limitations on the disc, the decision was made to limit the audio to Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround only (here at 1.5mbps). Unfortunately, this confirms the long-held theory that the 30Gb capacity of an HD-30 dual-layer HD DVD disc has forced studios to choose between offering a robust supplements package (as they've done here) and the very best in audio quality.
Why aren't we talking about this?

Give his previous reviews (and if it wasn't for the obvious bias), it would be amazing that he didn't give it at least 4.5 stars instead of 5 for AQ. Look at some of the weird, whimsical reasons he gives for dropping a half star on other reivews. :eyeroll:

My thoughts exactly Razzy!

They would never get away with something like this for picture quality.
"Yeah, it's VHS quality - but it's the best VHS quality ever!!! Seeing as we can't compare it to an HD version, we'll give it a 5!"
Makes no sense...

The only way it would be rated 5 out of 5 is on BLU, enough said....

Because we already knew that part...I even started a thread back when Gods and Generals got such a bad review as far as PQ and Bracke stated that the HD DUD supplements were on the other side of the disc and there just wasn't enough space on the DUD discs.

Shhhh, before the government hears you and adopts it.

I know our Audio/Visual at the Air National Guard just got a PC with a blu-ray burner about July or so. When Uncle Sam adopts something, it tends to stick around a lot longer, and often become consumer standard over time.

Gotta love it.

Gotta wonder......when Transformers finally makes it to Blu Ray and has PCM or True HD audio, what will Bracke score it? 6......7...10 outta 5?

Nah....

Bracke: "not really a noticable improvement over DD 5.1."
AQ: 4.5/5.

Ditto. They are almost as bad as AVS at this stage.

I am not going to judge something that I have no plans of buying tomorrow but this came from a major BR supporter posted at AVS and it surprised me.

It is the best DD+ track I have heard since King Kong and is better then several PCM and TrueHD tracks I have heard. Is it better then say the PotC movies or the Dave Mathews release? No, but it isn't all that far behind either.

Are you saying that you shouldn't give a perfect AQ score to a movies, regardless of how good it sounds??? Shouldn't how good it sounds be the ONLY criteria for the score?

Don't you agree that a DD+ track for a particular movie can sound better than a PCM track for another movie? The audio specs is only one part of how the presentation turns out.

And just about every review I have read gives Transformers a perfect AQ score.

Cool

Bracke over on hddigest gave the sound a 5 star rating too. On DD 5.1 track on a "next gen" format? Just proves his bias for hd-dvd

we've known it for months now

It's getting the HDDUD'ers who have the attitude of "Good enough" to start recognizing they are getting the shaft.

- personally, i have not yet seen or heard perfection. i believe they are giving perfect scores out too often. now if he is saying that this is the best dd+ soundtrack he has ever heard, that would be credible. i wonder if his review will stand the test of time? perfection, it just is not there. the technology for perfection doesn't exist.

Ratings should be based on comparisons to other HD discs. A 5/5 for AQ tells me that this is one of the best sounding moves available, regardless of audio format.
