Like Willy Wonka? I don't think of the second one as bad or worse as the original, just different.

As for what I think should be remade? I'll say Dragon Ball. There is great potential in the story and characters, but Fox bungled another franchise with their film adaptation. Would also like to see a Power Rangers movie come some time. If Transformers can do it, so can Power Rangers.

Oh yeah, this too. "Told in a darker and less musical way." Agree completely. It's too bright and cheery for the fantastically dangerous journey. And drop the "ruby" slippers too.

I realize what I just said might sound sarcastic. It is not. I am being 100% serious.

I don't mean that From Hell should be remade, but I would like to see a Jack The Ripper movie as good as Zodiac or possibly Sherlock Holmes (although I haven't seen it, just the reviews).

I would prefer they come up with some interesting new movies instead of being lazy and re-do something that other directors and writers had the guts to create 40-30-20 or even 10 years ago. They have big shinny college diplomas don't they in Hollywood these days? Why not put what you learn in college to good use, make your brain work for a change and come up with your own ideas instead of stealing what other people dreamed up with their brains. Stop being lazy Hollywood and return to a time when you had originality.

Maybe The Ten Commandments.
There already is a remake of the 10 Commandments, and ironically that is the one on Blu-Ray.

And what time would that be? Hollywood has never been truly original. Look at most top 10s or 20s, how many adaptations are on that list? Whether they adapt a novel, a play or another movie shouldn't really matter.

Star Wars: A New Hope was inspired by Seven Samurai and Yojimbo.

Once Upon A Time in Mexico was inspired by Once Upon A Time in the West and Once Upon A Time in America.

Without A Paddle was inspired by Deliverance.

Die Hard With A Vengeance used a retooled script for Lethal Weapon 3.

The Departed is a remake of the Infernal Affairs trilogy.

The Harry Potter franchise was adapted from the books.

So yeah, there is quite a bit of originallity in Hollywood now.

I would LOVE to see someone remake Braveheart(Ridley Scott?). They could make to story more true to history and with today's tech they should finally be able to get the battles done correctly and on a much grander scale.

Back to the Future. I'm not suggesting a remake so much as a original story with the concept. love those movies. love the car time machine. get some fresh characters a give it another go. A BttF: next generation if you will.

I'd hardly call that an unoriginal idea... seeing as how they've been making books into movies for decades.

Hollywood use to have a bit more originality then they have now. The last 20 years will go down in history of cinema as the remake era of cinema.

So the English would be the good guys, right? Braveheart is one of, if not the last "epic movie" in which it's battle scenes aren't riddled with cgi garbage. Even being made 15 years ago they hold up better than most today.

I don't know why people get so enraged about the "truth" to these types of movies. None of them will be dead-on accurate. If anything, tell Mr. Scott to re-make Gladiator as it hasn't aged well at all and is also teeming with historical inaccuracies moreso than most.

There's no such thing as a "new story". All stories branch from elements which are present in other stories. Sometimes a story can come up with an interesting angle at an age-old story (see: Star Wars), but in reality, every story is "old" whether you recognize it or not. This is what bothers me most when people criticize Avatar for not being a "new" story. But what they fail to realize is that many DIFFERENT stories are cited as the one it is "ripping off". I think my favorite was "Pocahontas in space", but "Dances with Wolves (with blue cat people)" is pretty good too.

I wouldn't mind a new Back to the Future with a new cultural juxtaposition. In 1985, Marty McFly went back to 1985, but set it in 2015 and have a kid go back and meet his parents in 1985.

But don't call it Back to the Future Part IV. And don't even try to include Marty McFly in it. No offense to Michael J. Fox.

They've ALWAYS been making remakes, you just never noticed it because you weren't alive then. People always remember 1939's The Wizard of Oz, but they never remember the other versions that came before it. Many don't even remember the NOVEL that came before it!

I wonder if Hollywood has become like the music industry, where pretty much most of what can be done has been done?

+1. Alexander the Great is one of my favorite historical figures, there needs to be a film that does his life justice. Ridley Scott is the obvious choice, but I've always seen Terrence Malick as the man for the job.
