Default Flags of our Fathers

I am tempted to blind buy this movie. I notice that the US and UK release are both region free, but according to the spec's have a different Video and Audio transfer. Which is the recommend version?

I am curious as to what you did not like about it? Slow Moving? Bad Acting? Just unexplainable bad?

+1 I usually love war movies but this one just didn't hold my interest. Weak cast, characters I just didn't care about... it just wasn't in the same league as other recent war flicks...

Get both flags of our fathers and iwo jima and watch them in that order as intended.Thought flags of our fathers was the weak one of the two,but plenty enough to keep you interested.Think watching them both will be a treat for you.It was for me

+1. I also enjoyed the complete experience.

I also agree that Flags of our fathers was the weaker film but Iwo Jima was wonderful.

I love this movie (and its companion piece Letters from Iwo Jima). Clint Eastwood is such an amazing director.

I also think Letters is the better movie.

They are both sad stories, but
[Show spoiler]the spectacle of the american soldiers on the war-bond selling tour in Flags was so depressing. Based on truth I assume, which only makes it even more depressing.

Wow, I can't believe how much this movie is getting trashed... It wasn't as good as Letters From Iwo Jima, true, but it wasn't a bad movie either. Completely different TYPE of movie from that.

I concur. Perhaps some viewers were misled by its marketing campaign as to what type of movie this was because of the WWII backdrop, and the pacing is slower than LFIJ, but it is a good movie in its own right.

I liked it enough to add it to my collection, but at the very least, it's worth a rental for those who are on the fence.

BTW, I did not intend to come across as trashing Flags. It is a great movie in its own right. Everyone should see both of these movies.

I absolutely agree with you. When one says that the one is not as good as the other,it gives the impression it is bad.I will say flags is 4/5 and letters is 4.5/5.Also think the combined is more than the sum of it's parts and will give it 5/5 as a movie experience

I gave FLAGS a 2.5/5 rating and LETTERS a 4/5 rating. Not saying the movie
was bad, but it was a rare misfire for Eastwood in my opinion..

I think this is a pretty reasonable assessment. Flags suffers just a bit (more?) from a Spielberg flavor would be the way I'd put it, but actually it's also quite a decent film. Finally got around to Letters a few months ago and it's quite good also, and did enjoy it a bit more.

Looks like PCM (aka lossless). (Based on screen snaps of the setup menu somebody put up at amazon/uk.)

Saving Private Ryan beat out both of them and it even on Blu and thats what frusterates me the most! But I thought both films were very good and are must haves for your Blu ray library.
