Default brokenthumb's Dungeon Retreat

Thought I would create my own little thread to display my ever changing theater.

Without further ado here are some of my latest acquired items.

Sanyo Z700 1080p projector

A shot of the DIY Anamorphic Lens in place

Violet's Sword from the movie "Ultraviolet"

My Riddick Saber Claws from "The Chronicles of Riddick" and Cullen Family Crest set from "Twilight: New Moon" also came in this week. Unfortunately my camera just ran out of battery life. So I'll post more pics when it charges.

The newest addition I'm most excited about is this. Link It is supposed to arrive at my doorstep next Tuesday!
Video 1 Video 2

Thanks to forsberg21's swords and talstarone's lightsaber I've now become addicted to this stuff.

I have the battery on charge right now. Thanks Vega, seeing your awesome anamorphic lens pushed me to try one myself and I'm glad I did!

The movie was okay, if you don't take it too seriously, but I thought the sword was very unique. Hey it had a nude Milla Jovovich in it, can't be all bad!!!

Hey,

I own UltraViolet. I bought it twice actually. It's the only Blu I ever sold back but then I would see it sitting there on the shelf in my Newbury all rejected and stuff so eventually I brought it back home.

I guess I even have the unrated DVD version around here somewhere too. I can see owning it but actually liking it is a stretch. The opening credits are nifty... that's for sure.

Actually... I own other discs that I can't watch at all like High School Musical. (I thought the kids would be into that but they are like WTF?)

I'm kind of a Milla fan I guess.

I own both versions as well. I guess it is sort of a guilty pleasure. The credits are quite cool, as you say, and I love all the colors used in the movie.. very colorful. Although most of the movie is quite cheesy, I don't know there is just something about a hot chick with a sword going through 200 guys with guns. LOL

Finally got the battery charged in the camera and here are some more goodies I purchased this week for decoration.

Riddick's Saber Claws from "Chronicles of Riddick"

This things make you feel freaking awesome when holding them.

Twilight Cullen Family Crest Collection (Hey you have to have somthing to impress the girls with when they come over)

Autographed card by Ashley Greene with a Silver Sharpie!

Here is another shot of the Ultraviolet sword unsheathed...

Nice stuff.

No worries about enjoying a fun movie that others don't like or don't rate in the AFI 100. I have a few in my collection like that too. And I did enjoy Ultraviolet, look s great, sounds great and is a lot of fun to watch.

Love your avatar!

Dying for Alien to come out. I took the DVDs off my shelf last year when the news broke bout their release. So disappointed that they changed the date.

Hey,

Those bulbs look neat they way they are mounted and how did you manage to make a DIY animorphic lens setup??? Is there info about such projects online somewhere?

I wouldn't mind trying something like that too.

Well, well, about time brokenthumb! Welcome to the party my friend......your HT looks just freakin' awesome buddy. I have always loved the color of your walls, and I didn't realize that you have dove head first into the collectibles now. Be careful, as I had been warned by Gates...it addictive, but it appears I may be too late with those words. Your DIY anamorphic lense really makes it seem easy to do. I have no space to add one, but that will change in time, I'm sure.

Looks like I have a new thread to check into regularly now. Great HT and nice screen shots!

Hey Brian,

Bokenthumb followed my lead and I followed the lead of several AVS members on making our own ALs. You can check out page #1, #4 and #5 of my thread HERE, where I give some details as well as give links to more details. Do yourself a favor and do it! It has probably been the most bang for the buck upgrade I have ever made! Good luck!

Your avatar isn't too bad as well... I still have the DVD set on my shelf b/c I usually watch all of them back to back at least twice a year. Alien and Aliens are two of my all-time favorites!!!!

Vega pretty much summed the anamorphic lens up in his post. It is really simple and quite cheap to remove the black bars completely from scope movies! One of the best and cheapest things I've done for my theater.

Now I get a warning about collectibles... LOL Yeah its a little too late for me I'm afraid. The anamorphic lens is really easy to make, you should give it a shot when you do get the space. It is a fun project with a big payoff!

That is exactly what it is. For a couple of hours it's a retreat from the world. So nice just to relax and enter a new universe through the magic of home theater!!!!

Do it Brian! Like vega said it is a terrific upgrade, the lens makes your projector setup feel even more like your local theater.

Sorry it takes me so long to reply, I don't get to check the site that often. I work at my local newspaper so I have to kind of dodge the Editor all day. A lot of times I have the browser hid for hours while in the middle of a post. LOL

Woot! My Kill Bill Sword is Out for Delivery today!!!

I've been seriously thinking about trying to put up a 125" 2.35:1 screen in the same room the theater is in now. I'm going to try and do some experimenting today with the anamorphic lens and see how bad the pincushion is. The seating would be 9' from the screen.
The only way would be with the anamorphic lens b/c zooming can only provide an extra inch or two larger than what I have now.

Another problem would be the Polk Monitor 70's, they are too high for a 49" tall screen and there will be no room on the left and right side of the screen. It will literally be a wall to wall screen. I could put a couple of Monitor 40's up front or lay the 70's down sideways... I don't know. Just thinking out loud here.

Why couldn't you use a 2.35:1 screen that is "only" 109" big? I see the 70's are about 8" wide, so you could still do a 2.35:1 screen, but do you really need the extra 16" inches? Yeah, yeah, yeah.....I know......

Well Amazon has the 125" for $499 with Prime Shipping and the 103" for $665. The 115" is $701. That got me thinking about the 125" LOL.

I don't know though, the 96" is probably the perfect size for the room anyway. It just seems to shrink over time.

Then build your own....you already did the anamorphic lense.....building a screen has got to be easier than that!
