Default Do embossed steelbooks weaken the cover?

Does anyone think that embossing the covers of the steelbooks weaken the integrity of the cover?
In my experience most of the dented steelbooks I receive in the mail are those that have been embossed (Public Enemies [German], Righteous Kill, and Inglourious Basterds [French]).
The German Public Enemies cover feels strangely thinner and cheaper than any other steelbook cover.

So the million dollar question is: "Are embossed steelbook cases worth it"?

Embossed SB does not weaken the SB, you just got unlucky and it's a pure coincidence.

I don't think so, none of my embossed SB are weak at all.

Embossing if anything, strengthens the cover by "corrugating" the flat metal sheet. You were just unlucky.

lol, actually in theory it would reasonable being the integrity of the metal has changed by stretching it in some form. I dont believe though, it causes dents. Two orders from Amazon.fr of IB and no dents and my order from Germnay had dents on edges from the stupid Amazon packers(it could have been avoided)

But my Public Enemies from Germany feels a lot thinner when I squeeze it. Others feel a lot more solid.

I was unlucky with amazon.fr and never got a flawless steelbook shipement. (beside some replacements)
But somehow I only had to return 3-4 SB to amazon.de. (out of 15-25 orders)

There may be a point in this whereby an embossed SteelBook may need to be made of thinner steel to better accommodate the embossing process.

A good question for Scanavo.

I agree. You are displacing the metal to emboss it so it must weaken it.

Your right JW, the German SB does look better, the deeper red makes a big difference.

Actually what I meant was that there may be a requirement on Scanavo's behalf that a SteelBook be no more than a maximum thickness to accommodate embossing.

There may be a higher thickness available if it does not need to be embossed.

False. When you cold work sheet steel by embossing, you are strengthening the base metal slightly. The overall structure is also strengthened versus a comparable flat surface. The only possible reason for a strength decrease with embossed steelbooks would be that they are using a thinner gauge sheet.

The million dollar answer is - it depends on the EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

Default Do Embossed Steelbooks Damage Easier?

I'm not talking about dents since we've had that debate before. I'm curious if the embossed parts of a steelbook are more prone to have the paint rubbed off by friction between other Steelbooks on a shelf. Because the embossed part is not flush with the rest of the Steelbook front. Does debossing the area around it prevent this? Sorry if I made this a complex question.

My opinion is that if you are worried about the condition of your Steelbooks, you should probably purchase protective sleeves to fit around the case. And maybe you shouldn't pack your steelbooks so tightly on your shelves.

well i'm smart enough to not cram my steelbooks together. but i am somewhat skeptical that sleeves will prevent paint rubbing off. there's still friction, right?
