I have a small mac mini that has a DVI > HDMI cable already hooked up to my system and have verified that rotating the desktop works great.

It would take a little programming, which I'm not really familiar with on a mac, but I should be able to check what movie the home theater PC is currently playing and display the movie poster that goes with it. Even if I can't get that working right away, I'm certain I can get it cycling through a folder filled with movie poster images.

I'll probably add a little mini keyboard and mouse that sit on top of the candy counter so we can pull up other movie related pages. I think a page like IMDB's Top 250 would be a nice conversation piece and will look really cool on it.

I can't afford something too expensive but I'd probably spring for 1080p to make sure the image is as clear as possible. Do you think they will let me hook up the mac mini at Walmart before buying?

My last thought is building a wood frame around it so the edge of the TV is hidden and the whole thing looks professional. I was originally thinking of finding a wall mount where you can hold the TV by the sides and rotate it horizontally or vertically. This would be nice for watching more than one football game but I doubt they make a mount like that and I'd have to make something custom which would probably fail LOL. I'm guessing the wood frame idea wouldn't work very well either if I did that.

So that's the idea. If you look in my gallery, I'm thinking of placing it on the same wall as the components, basically right where the right hand eyeball light shines on the wall (you can kind of see from the panoramic).

TK,

That is one awesome idea!! I have seen flat panels framed with wood and they look fantastic. I really like the idea of being able to rotate it because whenever you feel like it, you can have trailers going, instead of just the posters. Displaying the vertical posters can be as simple as a Power point presentation where you customize the fade-in and fade-out on the posters you want to show - definitley doable!

Neat idea.....if you ever start to do this, you got to make a thread so we can all follow your progress.......it could look incredible if it works...others may follow your lead as well. Good luck!

My plans for the new year are a new 7.1 channel receiver with pre-outs, a power conditioner and a new TV stand and media center. My wish list also includes an external Emotiva amp and some bipole rear surrounds but I'll have to wait and see how things go. I know that my wife wants new couches for the living room so I may have to do that and put off some of my plans until 2011. I can't complain though, 2009 was a good year for me.

I'm redoing my game room set up. All current furniture and shelves will be going away. I got a new sofa, end tables and entertainment unit; and I plan to wall mount the TV. I'll be getting new floorstanding speakers so the only speaker on the entertainment unit will be the center. Furniture comes Feb 6th, but I may not wall mount immediately depending upon funds and finding friends to assist.

I already moved one of my XBox 360's to my bedroom for Netflix, and dug up an old HTiB receiver and added some floorstanders in there earlier this month. I'm going to get a Rocketfish wireless speaker kit for rear surrounds in there because I already took out all the speaker wire for the HTiB I used to have in there.

As a Floridian, I don't have the opportunity to consider a Basement HT. However, I have some ideas. I have already jumpstarted with a New 42" Panasonic Plasma for the family room. This moved the 32" LG to our bedroom.

Now plans for the theater room: Buttkicker LFE to go with the Buttkicker Advance

Projector Screen and New HD Projector. Many thanks to all these forums that have corrupted me into salivating over the idea. My wife, however, doesn't thank you ;-)

Also, the star ceiling seems like a fun project.

yup 720p tvs are 720p or 1080i as their max resolutions. i would image you could get a solid 720p/1080i tv at 42" for sub $800 if you search.

i would be setting it to 1080i for still images if i were to do a thing like that. 1080p will be over kill.

Just purchased my first 5.1 system (Onkyo and SVS as seen in signature). It's lying in boxes in my basement.

Looking to revamp the Man-Cave with the surround, fix up the bar, hang up some memorabilia and add a popcorn maker

I keep thinking about getting new speakers (B&W maybe) but every time I get to the point of selling them I lose my nerve.
I actually had them up on ebay once and the high bidder talked me out of selling them. lol

What B&Ws would you be looking at??? You're gonna have to spend some coin to find something to "justify" the replacement of those M&Ks.....

Besides.... I wouldn't upgrade until I could afford to keep the M&Ks in the process...... Not sure what the offers were, but I doubt you could get what they are "worth" ..... I'd certainly save them for some future usage........

I currently don't have anything planned, other than getting a new bulb for my PJ.

I'll probably end up working on updating my computers this year, as I haven't touched them since I started buying audio equipment (I blame this sight for that ). Started off as a somewhat expensive stereo replacement for my computer speakers and turned into a 5.1 HT within 4 months... Think I caught that bug that goes around this site. Hopefully I can keep it at bay till next year.

We shall see how this year goes, as I didn't have anything planned last year either...

Upgrades are going to be few and far between this year due to the horrible economy. I will be waiting on the video side to see how the 3D spec shakes out.

I would like to upgrade my center channel speaker to a Paradigm Studio CC-690 v.5 if possible. I almost pulled the trigger last year and decided to wait, now I wish I would have just bought it.

TKnice, that tv/poster thing is a great idea!

One plan for my HT this year will be wearing out the Bulb on the projector......

It'd take a heck of a lot of viewing, but I'm up for it!!!!!!!!
