Yea, and I've also heard that it was a miss-translation.

Personally i'd love to see it as i never caught anything other than FF8 and 10 and i dont remember finishing 8! I know its been dangled in front of PS3 owners since the tech demo years ago but its still not been put to bed.
I would hope that rather than just remastering the game like what happened with GoW 1 and 2, they would completely redo the game with up-to-date graphics and whatnot. I mean, they already teased something like that a long time ago, so if it is remade like that, I think it'd be awesome. If it were true, that is.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is also a "highly requested" game. Just saying.

Wouldn't it be a trip if they already remade the game and just kept it under secrecy. Just release it after the XIII series.
Because a remake for VII is a no brainer. It'd easily be the best selling game on the PS3.

FFX should be remade on the PS3, you'll always have this FF7 Vs FFX arguement. I liked FF7 but I didn't like it's ending. Was very anti-climatic.

An FFX remake would have nowhere near the impact that an FF7 remake would. Plus, FF7 benefits more from a remake because its visuals are more dated and developers could reimagine the look for next-gen. FFX still looks respectable and employs a lot of the camera/visual techniques that are perfected in FFXIII.

Oh man, brings me back....so many summer days spent inside with the SNES & PSX.

I swear, once Squaresoft almost went bankrupt with that Final Fantasy movie, they just stopped being creative. Rehashes left and right from their glory days, and average entries into the Final Fantasy series. I'm still trying to find my copy of Einhander & Ehrgeiz.....proof they used to venture out of their safety zone.

Sorry, I "digest"....haha.
Agreed. Ever since that movie bombed Square has been mediocre at best.

A shame Xenogears never got a sequel/prequel. It is next to Chrono Trigger as my all time favorite RPG.

Maybe a remake of FF7 in 2012.. 15th anniversary right?

Because it isn't Square anymore.

Will need some miracle to get quality like Chrono Trigger and Xenogears back.

Dragon's Quest 8 might fit the bill (for me)

Dragon Quest VIII was amazing! Liked it better than any of the PS2 FF games. In fact, the FF franchise has declined since FFIX. FFX was okay, and FFXII was fun to play, but light on substance and lacked the 'spark' of earlier FF games (IV and VI to me). FFXIII doesn't even interest me. In fact, I wish they would hurry up with Kingdom Hearts 3 (infinately more interesting than FFXIII!)

I love Squaresoft's SNES days the most. FFIV (II), FFVI (III), Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. Ah, those were the days.....

I'd rather VIII be remade myself...

But yeah, they're gonna do it. The hype and fanbase is there. They won't just announce the FF7 remake. It's destined to be a E3 megaton 100% guaranteed.

Dragon Quest 8 was made by Level 5, only being published by Square-Enix.

So to me that doesn't qualify as a Square-Enix project.

Dragon Quest has always been developed by an outside studio, but with very heavy input from Enix. DQ VIII has some Level 5 touches like an alchemy system, and Level 5 gets the credit for the technical aspects, but it's still designed by Enix.

To add to this, it was translated by Square Enix, which essentially means it was translated by SquareSoft. During the merger it was abundantly clear that Square had a bigger operation in America, and they ended up disbanding the old Enix America.

I've considered Square near the top of the translation-quality chart since Fall 1999/Final Fantasy 8.

Really?

Yuji Horii is the mastermind behind Dragon Quest series. He doesn't work for Square-Enix, and he was the producer.

Level 5 did the technical work (and had the Director)

Akira Toriyama did the character design, also a non-Enixer.

Translation by itself can't count, no matter how well done it actually is.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but if you look at the credits of Dragon Quest VIII you have to get to fairly un-important roles to find an actual Square-Enixer.

Even if Square-Enix had way more to do with it than I thought, is it any wonder that I didn't realize it?

*EDIT* I see that Horii's company has an exclusive contract with Square-Enix so he doesn't do work for anyone else, but once you've split off a company is it really your work? Wouldn't that be more 2nd party than first party? I always get confused by these terms.
