I voted for the format that will likely win in the end.

HD DVD has 42 votes! This is great news for HD DVD

As insignificant as the AVSForum is to the whole marketplace, this site is apparently much less significant again.

You make a good point, in general, that I find myself saying often:

If you combine all of these AV forums together, including us here and the rest of it: We all represent an incredibly small minority/percentage of a much larger group of people out there that couldn't care less about posting on the Internet.

when you are looking at a sample size of roughly 62 people, you can hear laughs from all over the world. 62 people isn't worth picking up a dollar bill they dropped. posting polls is great and all from time to time, but to get any true sense of what is going on you need thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of votes.

The problem the AVS'//HDDVD fanboy, shill, tools are running up against is that their "word of mouth" advertising is only going to take their prefered format so far. When was the last time you saw HDDVD in the sunday ads? Almost weekly Blu Ray is in the circuit city and Best Buy ads. I've even seen it in the Comp Usa Ad. With ps3 now 1 week away, do you think the advertising will decrease? Also count in that there are players launching in December from Sony & Pioneer, which likely means more advertising.

I just think HDDVD is running out of steam to fund this project alone. Okay they have a Bus that drives around...whooptie f'N dOO! Who see's that? some people that say "whats that?"

I think over the next 6 weeks it's going to get increasingly worse for HDDVD and barring a miracle, by this time next year HDDVD could already be showing signs of throwing in the towel.

Just wait until next week's ad drops... I think alot of people will be surprised... I count about 5-6 pages of a 30 page ad devoted to/mentioning Blu-ray... that's about 20% of the ad space advertising BD.

Looking at Pioneer's Blu-ray player page, it's hard to figure out whether they're talking about Blu-ray being better than HD-DVD or their BD player being better than the rest when they say.....
The envelope hasn't even been opened and it's not hard to predict the winner.

Another thing to consider is bias.

If you took a poll here it would be even more meaningless because there is a bias here.

Personally I use the 'vote with the wallet' system. It is the only vote that really counts

Certainly you're seeing self marketing and self promotion at its best, although again, I've been surprised at seeing even certain belligerent HD-DVD zealots on certain forums give really high praise for this unit...begrudingly, of course.

So you finally realized "The Truth" and voted Blu-Ray as well, huh?

Or came to grips with the fact that Blu-ray is not a "Sony only" format that he is trying to spread elsewhere. ...and then voted for Blu-ray.

There was an "independent" poll that looked more like 20% to 5% a few months ago. I decided to look at it last night after reading this thread:

So if the most often quoted 3:1 "number" is from the end of august, and now we're at 3:2 in this poll, does that mean Blu doubled in two months?

Well in two more months the Xmas season will have ended so we'll have a better idea.
