Any word on when the Bond Blu releases will continue? I seem to remember reading about MGM/UA running out of money or something

Default Never Say Blu-Ray Again...

Man, I got soooo sick of waiting for the next wave of Bond Blu-rays that I already ordered non-Blu-ray titles on DVD (Diamonds Are Forever, Living Daylights, Spy Who Loved Me, etc.). IF they plan to pump these out in conjunction with new Bond film (which hasn't even started pre-production) then screw that... I can't wait. (of course, I'll still re-buy them on BR)

What a letdown.

I appreciate the info on MGM being in the gutter, but they're obviously still releasing stuff like The Thomas Crown Affair (which I'm pretty sure won't sell as good as A View To A Kill on Blu-ray)....

Heck, give us ONE Bond Blu-ray this year, and I'll be happy enough to hear they're still getting pumped out.

I agree!! One would be SO comforting! MGM knows that we're waiting.

I wish I knew! Especially for The Spy Who Loved Me. A true "popcorn favorite" of mine that has been on my watch list since I started buying blu-rays! Seeing that many of the others were immediately released, and rightly so, I thought this one (especially) would've been released as well by now. But I'm sure they're just playing the "not releasing all their gems at once" game. I have no doubt that someday relatively soon it/the rest will likely be released. But what do I know...

Well, judging from the release schedules of past Bond Blu-rays, we should be getting a couple sooner or later this year.

Sigh.. just got my Spy Who Loved Me DVD in the mail. Can't wait to pop it in. Just kind of sucks that it's not going to be the pristine Blu-ray I'm wishing for.

Speaking of which, the quality of the Bond Blu-rays are the BEST transfers I've ever seen of movies that are as old as they are. They really did a sweet job.

when i was little my dad took me to see the latest bond flick starting with the man with the golden gun. we saw all the bond flicks together till he passed away in 05. the moore era is far from the best but they will always have special meaning to me. i think jaws was one of the most memorable bond villains ever.

seeing how the sale to Wb or Lionsgate is looking to be taking place shortly I am thinking that it wont be to long after who ever wins out, will start putting out atleast a few bond films in the near future after they take over MGMs Catalog.

on a side note I was fortunate enough to get my Die Another Day and World is Not enough steelbooks autographed By pierce last night at screening in Hollywood for his movie the greatest.

That's good, optimistic speculation. I hope you're right. A few weeks ago I finally broke down and picked up Quantum of Solace when BB had it on sale. Watched it tonight; not as bad watching it this time than the first time in the theatre. Casino Royale was just so damn good, this just didn't rise to the occasion like I had hoped then. Tonight I enjoyed picking up on some story details I missed the first time.

Yeah, my fondness for that one is hard to explain but I just really enjoy it. I also think that the initial Connery ones will always probably be the "definitive ones" and Dr.No and Goldfinger are my very favorites too (in a slightly different way). But something about The Spy Who Loved Me just all comes together so entertainingly for me on so many levels.

It does have that sort of "late 70's blockbuster" style mood to it, which at least for this particular film seems most appropriate. It does seem to be the one bond film I most associate with just watching casually in a theatre. I like to call such films "popcorn movies". As you mentioned, Jaws is great as a villain - very menacing and visual yet really sort of comical and clumsy at the same time.

And Barbara Bach is also one of my very favorite Bond girls here. And I love how her and Bond are sort of competing with each other the whole way for the same purpose yet have that underlying attraction and chemistry that, of course, eventually works out in a happy (and hilarious) ending as they float to safety at the end, champagne and all. I also like the relationship between them in this film because here is a Bond girl that is often an even match for Bond as a partner. His macho-ism is less overpowering/effective against the main girl in this film and I think that it makes it a little unique and more interesting too. I especially love the dreamy scene where they're on the boat, she's in the beautiful dress and they have the intimate dialogue before the "trick cigarette" gets pulled out...

Last but not least, this is also the Bond film that holds the distinction of having my very favorite opening sequence AND very favorite title song and titles sequence! Just gorgeous and "Nobody Does It Better" is just a beautiful song in my eyes (or is that ears). It's my all time favorite Bond song, though For Your Eyes Only is up there too...

I also like the commentary track for this film (on the Special Editions DVD). They talk a little about the success and importance of the song alone in regards to this film at the beginning opening titles sequence.

But this is definitely a fun (and even favorite) Bond film for me!

Excellent question. "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is at the top of this consumer's Blu-ray wish list.
The DVD's, as good as they were, contained many errors. The Blu-ray of
"Live and Let Die" is a thing of beauty.

I agree with Live And Let Die... but what do you mean about the DVDs having many errors?
