Default Allnic H-1200 phono stage

Hey fellow vinyl lovers,

I've just received the Allnic H-1200 tube phono stage for review. I can't wait to give it a, uh, spin! :-)

Thanks, John. I really mean it when I say that the moral support of you and others here (and elsewhere) really helps keep me going in these tough times.

Fortunately--and amazingly!--the distributor (Hammertone Audio) lives only a 10 minute drive from where I do. He's already said that I can borrow anything he has in stock. :-) Variety is the spice of life so I need to line up a few more items from other manufacturers for review, but it's a start!

The review will be appearing in the first issue of Vinylphile, which is planned to appear in April.

Rogue Audio has also said that they'll lend me something in the next month or two, but I'm not at liberty to say what just yet...

Now thats a sweet deal! Perhaps the Perseus preamp? I know you can't say, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Rogue has great rep, so that should carry some weight as you approach other manufacturers!

And as far as the support is concerned...we'll be here with you and doing what we can to encourage you and anything else it takes!

On another issue. When doing an LP review...lets say the RLJ one, will you do it based on the re-issue only or will you also make a comparison to the original pressing on regular vinyl?

John

It depends. If I have an original pressing to hand (which in the case of RLJ, I do), then yes I plan to compare the reissue to the original. But if I don't have an original, then a comparison would be rather hard to do! In that case, I'll describe only the sound quality of the reissue. The orignal RLJ is pretty good anyway, so the comparison will be very intersting!

I've tried to avoid commenting on the music content in my record reviews, because unlike sound quality, music is entirely subjective. What is complete crap to one person might be another's favourite record. In that context, I figure who am I to judge musical taste?

Hey Rich... first off don't feel discouraged !!! I can remember a time when all I needed was a chance, but nobody really wanted to give me that chance. Understandable to an extent. For a while I was one of my own biggest obstacles, but that was because I wasn't willing to go outside of my comfort zone. I realized, for the most part they didn't want the competition. They ended up having to work harder, longer, & better because I needed to earn that solid reputation. At the end of the day & mistakes along the way, I am still here. I feel that you learn more from the things you get wrong than what we do right. I've paid my due's... and as they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day". Blaze a new trail buddy !

Looking forward to the review Rich Try not to focus on the negative... Also do you plan to test gear using a variety music genre's ? I've often found that different gear excels at different genre's...

Many thanks for your words of encouragement, Andrew--they're much appreciated! Most of the time I am a "glass half full" kind of guy, but most of the past 10 years, especially the last 6 to 12 months, have been very rough for us (from a financial point of view). I'm a big believer in "what goes around comes around"; I'm just waiting for some goodness to come our way. :-)

Yep. Fortunately, I have quite a wide range in musical tastes, from rock/pop to jazz to classical, so the gear should get a good work out. :-)

Hey Rich,

That's exciting news. I can't wait until the first issue comes out. I enjoyed your review of Tommy.

Hi Rich! Keep your outlook bright and positive even though that's hard to do sometimes. I've suffered my own setbacks in the last couple of years, so I feel you. If you feel deep down that you're moving in the right direction, then you are.

Terrific to see that some review equipment is going to make its way to you. I think I speak for many of us on this board that we are all genuinely looking forward to the first of many issues.
