Fight the Future.
While I like Billy Connolly, I disliked the addition of the pedo priest into I Want To Believe.

Being a fan, I can't get enough of David Duchovny. Although from a purely objective point of view, only Fight the Future is worth owning. I haven't even sat down to watch I Want to Believe again, just can't myself to.

Fight the Future is deep within the existing show's mythology and takes place between season 5+6.

I Want to Believe is pretty much a stand-alone thing that takes place after the series run.

While they involve the same characters, they're really VERY different movies. If you're not a fan of the show, I'm not sure you'd enjoy either one. If you are, I'm not sure why you wouldn't want both.

I'd only buy the first as I thought I Want To Believe was pretty bad. I couldn't even justify spending $7.50 on it when I saw it on a clearance rack at Target last week.

Thanks all , I am just gonna buy 'Fight the Future' I was a big fan of the show when it was on TV but I have not seen a single show since it went off the air. I have pretty much forgotten everything about the show but I remember that I enjoyed it when it was on.

( here is hoping they release every season on BD someday!)

^^^ not sure if this is even possible though, ^^^

My review...

X-files: I Want to Believe

Rating: 3 out of 5

Six years after the X Files series ended Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Anderson) are back in their second big screen outing. Having previously been kicked out of the FBI, Mulder spends all of his time alone shut off from the world. His office is adorned with newspaper snippets of paranormal events along with the iconic 'I Want to Believe' flying saucer poster. Scully, now a doctor at a Christian hospital is contacted by the FBI to convince him to return and help them find a missing agent. Ok, yes, this film tanked at the box office and had pretty negative reviews. And I understand where the negativity comes from. This film has nothing at all to do with the first one. Anyone who watched the TV series knows there were two kind of episodes, the 'Mythos' episodes which dealt with the massive government conspiracy and an alien invasion, and the 'Monster of the Week' episodes which were individual stories of paranormal events. The first movie was in the Mythos camp, so it is somewhat fitting that the second one falls in the later category. However that decision clearly upset a lot of people who were expecting some sort of continuation or sequel to the first one. That said, you should consider I Want to Believe to be a better than average TV episode. With that mindset even the most casual fan while not being blown away will still enjoy watching it.

They were all shot on film, right? If so, it should definitely be possible.

Yea, that added about as much as a couple of slimy carnivorous aliens would've added to Doubt.

If you're a fairweather friend of the series, just get FIGHT THE FUTURE. If you're a devoted fan, get both.

I was a huge fan of the Series, and I actually thoroughly enjoyed Fight the Future, but as mentioned it's already deep into the Mythology, but should be easy for new viewers to come into the show.

That all being said, I still haven't seen I Want To Believe, even though I've had it since it got released. I lie, saw the first few minutes but wasn't in the mood.

Until I see I Want to Believe, I will only recommend Fight the Future
