which blu-ray has the best sound ? i have an excellent Yamaha amplifier (7.1), but without HDMI. I do not intend to buy a new amplifier. I noticed that (almost?) all blu-ray players only use the HDMI connection for DTS-HD or Dolby Digital+. Are there players that also output the HD sound via optical or coaxial digital out (or analogue)? I would like to connect the blu-ray via HDMI to my projector and use a different cable for the sound.

Most of them have analog outs. I would reccomend waiting until the new panasonic is announced to see what it has to offer. Since the 10 already has 7.1 analog outs and it does DTS HR as well as TrueHD. You might just get MA decoded with it to pass it out to your receiver. As to the DD+ I think all but the first gen players all pass it via analog. The coaxial or optical is not a good option since they limit it to 2 channel on it for the better audio.
Now for them sending via HDMI of course they are doing that first they want people to upgrade to 1.3 receivers then they will start decoding it. simple business there. |

i had been thinking about the panasonic. at the moment i'm using the PS3, which works well, but has very limited outputs for sound and vision (except if you use HDMI).

If you are looking to buy now the new pioneer elite will decode everything except for MA to send it out via the 5.1 outs. But it is one of the most expensive players out there at $999.

the pioneer is not yet generally available in europe and when you find it, it costs about 1500 euro ... very expensive. the pana might be the best option ... it used to be 1500 euro and is now available for less than half that.

It is not generally avail here either. But is is starting to hit. And since you are looking in the EU that makes a difference. Not sure how long it will take for the panasonic 30 to hit there since it is still not here either. But they tend to be abit more Euro friendly than most from what I have read. If you are not concerned about being able to get MA then the panasonic 10 would be good fro you. But since the new player has been seen with the same price as the old one might as well wait.
