Default Blockbuster Blu-ray playback problems on Pioneer BDP-94HD

i am posting this to address a problem ive been having with blockbuster online mailed blu ray movies. this may or not be happening with others. alot of the blu ray movies i am renting and that are delivered via usps are not playing well in my pioneer elite bdp-94hd. issues with freeze up, or disc cant load error, or improper region code error are some of the problems. this has not been a problem with blockbuster movies picked up at retail stores, or blu ray discs i have purchased. i have been working for about 2 months with pioneer customer support reporting each issue to find a commonality to these problems. the mail delivered blockbuster movies are the only ones with issues. i don't rent movies from any other source. that being said i emailed the results to blockbuster and have received a response stating they are aware of the problem and are working on better protecting the disc's during shipment. i post this just in case someone else is having these issues and are not sure what the problem is. even a disc that looks good may be damaged. p.s. blockbuster and pioneer have been quick to respond and helpful during this process.

I rented Planet Earth from blockbuster by mail and disc 4 never showed up on my PS3, it just wasn't recognized I guess. Then disc 3 had some skipping issues on one particular episode.

Aside from that my blockbuster by mail experience has been pretty good.

I suggest you try the netflix 2 week trial, to get another source of bds for rent through mail

I use Netflix, and have not received any unplayable disks for my BDP-S1, but they are very temperamental. Before putting anything in the player, I meticulously clean the disks, and sometimes I have to take them out and clean them again. Bungholes who inappropriately handle the disks should be tortured or castrated or something.

Default I haven't had any issues

But I think you can expect more of this as the movies get rented more often. More hands are touching these things everyday and you have to expect some kind of flaw in a certain percentage. Just like regular DVD's by mail, it's a crap shoot.

Good thing about BB is that you can exchange at the store if disk is giving you issues. No need to wait a few days for a replacement. Sorry you're having probs though.

- i should also mention pioneer told me they also have found chemical residue left on the disc's from the cleaning process used by these companies (blockbuster - netflix), so yes cleaning the disc's might also help. question: what can you use to clean a disc safely?

It's cool that Blockbuster chose Blu-ray but I have to say Blockbuster Blows. Everything about them is just horrible, I am ashamed to say that I use to work for that stupid company. Also the so called managers where stupid people.

I have been a member with Blockbuster for many months now and have been renting blu-ray regularly. I never have any problems with any of their blu-ray movies. I rent mostly blu-ray movies now from both online and in-store. Of course, I buy all the movies that I think are worth keeping.

I have been renting fot about 8 months now. First from Block Buster then from Netlix. I had one Blu-ray that skipped a little at the begining and that was it. The rest of them that I have rented have played fine.

I tried the Netflix trial and had no problem with the BD I rented. However BB online have terrible discs. They look like someone let their kids play with them. Hmm....I wonder if and hd dvd boys are renting them and purposely screwing with them? I wonder if anyone will come out with a Blu Ray lens cleaning disc. This would probably help too.

I haven't had any problems with Blockbuster so far. Most of my disks ship from New Brunswick, NJ. Where do yours ship from?

What happened to our super-duper-ultra-mega disk coating that was to prevent all this

Someone find that YouTube video of a guy taking a butcher knife to a BD then puts in the player and...bingo!...the thing plays without a problem.

I haven't had any actual problems watching them, it's just they look like crap when you get them.

Well, despite having been updated for a while now with the latest firmware and never allowing smudged and dirty discs to enter my player, I have had several discs that skip and freeze or just generally take two or three tries to load. It gets a little annoying sometimes, but this issue has rarely taken away from the viewing experience.

For what it's worth, I use glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean my disks.

Default Netflix Blu-ray playback problems on Pioneer BDP-94HD

Planet Earth, Disc 3 would not play on my Pioneer BDP-94HD but it played fine on my Sony Playstation 3. I have installed the latest firmware upgrades and cleaned the disc. This is the only disc that I have received from Netflix that would not play.

I have read on a number of tech forums about a problem that Netflix has with small cracks on the outside edge of BDs shipped to customers. As the postal service uses automated sorting machines that may damage the discs in the mail due to the envelopes not providing the protection needed. These cracks may be hard to see without looking through a magnifier.
