Default Led??

i am in the market for a new television. right now i just have a 42" insignia 1080p LCD. i would like to go bigger if possible. i have been thinking that i would definitely go with a panasonic plasma this time around, but i have to admit the LED sets have really impressed me. now i am teetering between those two. i dont have any particular models that i like considering i do not know much about the LEDs at all. plus, if i go plasma, im definitely thinking panasonic, but their newer series with the S and G and X and V and all that confuses me! i just dont know what would be the best bang for my buck. i also dont know about the care of the LEDs, like do you still have to break them in? do they need to be calibrated? i dont even know which of the brands are the top brands when it comes to LED. and last, but not least, i would like to stay under $2000 if possible. i may have a little wiggle room if its worth it. please help...

If you really don't need a new TV yet it might be good to hold off just a bit to see if the new TVs have HDMI 1.4 compatibility, etc. If nothing else it might force the older sets to drop in price while they clear the inventory. I think that is happening with the Blu-ray players already. The key thing with the refresh rate is whether it is just that, a refresh or if it is truly "repainting" the screen. I don't know what spec really spells that out but I believe the higher end Sonys do actually repaint the image not simply refresh it and probably several other quality brands do as well. You get what you pay for is probably very true in this instance.

Keep in mind that the "LED" tvs are really LCD with LED backlighting. The traditional LCDs used flourescent backlighting. There are newer technologies in development that may be a lot better than LCD/LED tvs.

well im looking at the Samsung UN55B8000. i really love the samsungs and how thin they are. i know that is just a cosmetic thing, but i really like it. i have never been a huge samsung fan. i always thought they were overpriced and for some reason have always had the personal opinion that they werent worth it. im not sure why exactly. BUT the picture on these looks amazing. ive found them at a couple places online for the low 2000's price range. if i can swing a deal that is tax free, i might be able to pull that off.

now, a guy at best buy told me that the samsungs can connect to the internet and will most likely be able to update to 3D by a firmware release, since 3D is the big push this year. is that even possible? i know that some best buy employees know their stuff, but a lot of them dont. i was just wondering if there was any truth behind this statement.

does anyone have any personal reviews for the tv mentioned above? any well known problems with it or anything? does anyone just completely think i am making a huge mistake if i decided to move on this set?

If you find this set for less than $2,300 please let me know I'm in the market for one of these.

I don't think so. It would be marketed as 3D-ready and would have a port in the back for the sync emitter, like my Sammy DLP. Without the port for the sync emitter, 3D glasses won't work.

I have a Panasonic G10 plasma and it looks absolutely beautiful. I've had my eyes on the LED's for some time now, but I will wait for the 50"s to drop below 1800 before buying. I got my G10 on release day for 1300. You can get them from 1200-1300 now, I would highly suggest you check them out. Would save a lot of money over current LED sets.

I do believe that LED is going to be a big thing in the near future, but until the prices drop I would highly suggest plasma for now.

what is all of this talk of the halo effect? its kind of scaring me.. but what is it exactly? a buddy of mine bought one these samsungs when it first came out and i asked him if he had heard of the halo effect and he said no, but he does have a couple spots on the screen that are darker that other parts of the screen for some reason. he said you can really tell when the tv is off or on a really dark scene. is that the halo effect? is it still a problem or has it been addressed?
