Default CPU Performance Scan

I have noticed my CPU Performance is running unusually high on occasions. I've googled some of the running processes to see if any are malicious, and process library.com recommends a 'free performance scan'. has anyone done this? or a similar type scan? any recommendations?

Usually free performance scan = virus.

Download AVG Free Edition for viruses
Download Spybot S&D for spyware

I have AVG and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, but I thought there might be a different type of scanner for analyzing what could be using up all my CPU performance?

I know that years ago... PC Pitstop used to be spyware free. I can't say for certain that it still is.

Here is a real program you can use to monitor your computer at the following link called WinUtilities Pro:

http://www.ylcomputing.com/content/view/351

For a very limited time they are giving away free lifetime registration keys to use it. Just follow the instructions and enter them after you download and install it. A handy program that does multiple cleaning tasks. Here is the ad copy for it:

WinUtilities Pro is an award winning collection of tools to optimize and speedup your system performance. this suite contains utilities to clean registry, temporary files on your disks, erase your application and internet browser history, cache and cookies. it also supports to defragment your disk drives and improve computer performance and stability. built-in StartUp Cleaner allows you to control startup programs that load automatically with windows, find duplicate files, fix broken shortcuts and uninstall unneeded software. other features include secure file deletion, recycle bin shredding, system maintenance tasks scheduling and undelete deleted files.

Start your computer in Safe Mode, and run maleware bytes (full scan) when Windows loads. I'm betting you'll find some malicious files on it.

Usually when your pc prompts you for a "free performance scan" something is up.

NONE, I repeat NONE of those are any good. I know you see commercials for crap like Finally Fast and similar companies promising to fix you computer just by pushing a button. They're all a load of crap. I don't know how many computers I've fixed for people that have fallen for that crap. Then they have to pay me to format and do a clean install of their computer because it's too far gone.

There is NO one button fix.

Use good programs like CCleaner, SpyBot, Malewarebytes, AVG, and Defraggler to maintain your computer. If those can't take care of it then it's tome format and reinstall. Also, avoid registry cleaners as well. CCleaner has one built and I wouldn't use that either. When it get's to the point you have to start messing with the registry you'll just save time formatting and doing a reinstall. Most people just usually make it a lot worse by playing in the registry anyway.

I agree with Polygon...The Crap Cleaner is a great tool that clears up a lot of junk and even repairs registry files.

Hmm, I'll give that a try. It would be the first one I've found that didn't just make things worse.
