I'm very interested in preordering this player, since it's 3D ready (it would be my first step towards changing into 3D). Plus I can connect wireless and other things that my current player doesn't do. Anyways my questions is.... Will this player be able to work with my Sony home theater system? And will I need new HDMI cable? I know I need a 3D tv.... But I can hold on that till later on... Hopefully by end of the year when avatar is released in 3D. I'm just worried that this new player won't be compatible with my Sony reciever since I think there's a new hdmi cable for 3D. Please help me.... Thanks

If you connect your Blu-ray player to the receiver by hdmi, then you would need to have an hdmi 1.4 compliant reciever(unlikely). The hdmi cables will probably need to be hdmi 1.4 spec cables, but for short runs older cables may work, we'll have to wait and see.
The only other option would be to connect the hdmi cable directly to the tv and send mutli-channel analog audio to the player, assuming the player has mutli-channel audio outputs and the receiver has mutli-channel audio inputs. If you don't care for or can't take advantage of the hd audio codecs with your reciever, then you could connect the blu-ray player by optical cable and send a dolby digital or dts surround track instead. |

Normal blu-ray movies will be fine over hdmi to a capable reciever. 3d Blu-ray movies will require hdmi 1.4 compatible receiver and television, unless the audio is sent to the receiver by a different means, in which case only the tv would need to be hdmi 1.4 compatible with the receiver being bypassed. |

What he is saying is if you want to run your HDMI through your receiver and still play 3-D movies you will also need to upgrade your receiver to a HDMI 1.4 capable receiver. Otherwise you can bypass the receiver and connect directly to the 3DTV or use HDMI for video and an optical audio cable to the receiver.
The blu-ray player will work fine via HDMI through your current receiver and TV except for those features which are exclusive to HDMI 1.4 which is 3D functionality and Ethernet passthrough. |

Nope. Either HDMI (bitstream) or analog outs(player decoding) for HD Codecs. NOt enough bandwidth on the coax or fiber optic cables.

I see that the S570 is available at Sonystyle.com but I was hoping to pick one up at Amazon.com (it was available for pre-order last week) but now it looks like it's not. I also can't seem to find it available at a Best Buy or other electronics store/website - any word on a release date?

I ordered mine last night direct from sonystyle.com as well. It shipped that same night.
As far as the 3D goes, bear in mind, and I can't remember where I read this, but I'm positive I read it, this player doesn't come out of the box 3D ready, it's scheduled in a future Firmware release for July 2010. I'm scratching my head where I read that, but I'm positive I did. I'm stalking the Fed-Ex tracking info waiting for it to get to my place. I have a Samsung BD-P1400 that has done nothing but aggravate me. There's nothing worse than finally getting a "Long Wait" Blu Ray from Netflix (a whole OTHER issue) and find out even with the most recent firmware version, it won't play on my player. Between that issue and the wifi capability of the Sony 570, it was an easy switch. |
