Default Panasonic BD-60 display problem

I have a BD-60 hooked up to an Onkyo 605 connected to my older Samsung 1080i/720p Dlp through DVI. The problem is I have to set the display setting on the BD60 to 1080i to match my TV. However, it sometimes resets itself to auto mode, this causes the 605 to send 1080p video to the TV and I get an "unsupported Input Mode" message. To correct this I must get to the menu screen through the composite video and set it back to 1080i. Once I do that I can switch the TV back to DVI and go on with my life. But it keeps switching back to auto mode, especially after I play standard dvd's.

Any thoughts as to how I can stop this? What is the cause? Help please.

How about using component cables instead of the DVI? How do you have the audio connected?

The BD60 is connected to the Onkyo 605 through HDMI. The TV is connected to the 605 with a HDMI to DVI adapter. Which looks better, HDMI or component, will I lose PQ by changing?

Picture quality will be the same. How do you get sound? I thought a DVI connection only carried video. I would connect the BD60 to the TV by component and the BD60 to the AVR by optical or coaxial for sound.

The sound is also through the HDMI from the BD60 into the Onkyo. I do not want to use optical or coax because I can not stream the lossless audio through those connectors. The HDMI out of the Onkyo goes to the DVI adapter and is only used for the video to the TV. There is no audio source sent out to the TV.

I understand how everything is connected now. You may have to connect the BD-60 to the Onkyo by component to keep the 1080i from changing to 1080p. I don't know if the Onkyo can send everything out by the HDMI cable if the input is from component(some AVR's can do that). Or just connect the BD-60 by component to the TV. The BD-60 might be able to send audio out by HDMI to the Onkyo and Video out by component to the TV at the same time.

I just got the BD-60 so I don't know the settings well yet. I should have bought a Sony. The set up menu is a lot simpler than the Panasonic.

I have the panasonic 80 and also an onkyo 605 receiver. I always get the player switching back to auto and I have an HDTV that does 1080P. its a problem with the panasonic player.

Well, I'll try the component and see what happens. I'm not sure if the Panny will send out audio through the HDMI and and video through component at the same time, but we'll see. My BD-30 had the same problem, I was hoping that this issue would have been fixed by now.

Thanks for the help!

I don`t know what happen with Panasonic and its BD players then, I have the same problem with my BD35 and it's awfull ... When I'm watching the movies I experience the same but I guess this occurred after I updated the firmware to the last version (2.1) 'cause this didn't happened with the former version... My Bd player is connected through an HDMI cable to my HDTV / 1080I and I have tried all the ways to fix it and I haven't any success... I think only have to wait that Panasonic take another version of the firmware or anybody knows how to reset the firmware updates ?

When I updated my Panasonic I think it said version 2.2 was available. How do you check the player to see what version it has?

In Bd35 you go to the setup menu, select display and then press the status button and there you'll see the version your player has !

It hasn't fixed it on mine. I too have the most recent firmware. The unusual thing is that there is no reason for this. It happens at random with no apparent cause.

I have noticed lately that the problem occurs mostly after viewing standard DVD's. Anyone else come to this conclusion?

Think I finally solved the problem...

Go into the settings (TV / Device Connection) and in the HDMI connection settings turn OFF the "HDMI Video Mode". This makes the hdmi output in the same resolution as the component video is set. Since component can't output at 1080p the unit can only output 1080i or 720p, whichever you set the component output to. The BD60 will still output from your hdmi as always, just not at 1080p. This seems to have stopped my switching back to the hdmi auto mode.

I hope this helps the other BD60 users who do not have 1080p displays. I also think this fix will work with the BD30 which was giving me the same issue.

Hi. A SOX fan Had a problem when I updated to firmware V 2.3. YouTube audio and Amazon download audio did not work. Short story, the HDMI audio out had to be disabled per the manual in order to use the optical output. So my final setup is HDMI (with audio enabled) to my 32" Sony Wega HD Monitor and a TOSLink optical cable to a Denon receiver. All is right with the world...
