Default Movie Stop

No clue why so many people buy movies there... They are way overpriced.. Anyways, despite what I just said I am very happy with them right now.. I traded in 43 DVD movies for 4 Blu-ray movies. Shawshank Redemption, JFK, A Time to Kill, and Gran Torino. They even gave me a Star Trek movie poster for free..

Anyways, I will only go there to get rid of my DVD movies and trade them in for Blus that are on sale. Does anybody else buy movies from Movie Stop and what is your opinion of them?

I only buy used from them, or new during one of their sales.

Moviestop = Rip off place.

Actually I'll buy from there when they have decent sales.

I just bought the first Season of Crash from them for $9.99. Sometimes they have damn good deals.

I still buy from them occasionally, but those occasions are becoming more and more rare. Their prices for new stuff are ridiculously high most of the time, but you can still find good prices on used movies sometimes.

Movie Stop in general is a rip off. But every now and then they do have pretty nice deals that I end up caving in for.

Default MovieStop Blu-ray Prices

My name is Steve and my job at MovieStop is to make sure our Blu-ray pricing is second to none so I'm very concerned after readling everyone's post about our prices being so high because I personally compare our prices to the competition and found just the opposite.

First, we beat the lowest nationally advertised price on all New Release Blu-rays when you reserve the movie in advance. This means if you reserve 2012this weekend since Best Buy has it advertised at $19.99 your price would be $18.87

Second, I personally visit Best Buy, Target and Walart and compare our pricing to theirs and have found 44% of the time our prices are lower, 43% of the time we are at the same price and just 13% of the time are prices were higher (usually due to a temporary sale that retailer is running).

Third, for the last 6 months we have been running an Up To 50% Off Blu-ray Sale that is located at the front of our store offering over 100 titles every week; that's often 2 to 3 times more on sale then Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target.

Lastly, we are intruducing a new program where you can Trade in 3 Blu-rays and get titles like Avatar and Sherlock Holmes FREE.

Please call me at 770-590-1765 x 225 so I can find out exactly what titles you have found and where that are lower priced then ours; we are dedicated to making Blu-ray fans like yourseleves our best customers and I would appreciate the opportunity to talk you.

Thanks

Steve

I work about 50 yeards away from a Movie Stop and when they first opened, I was not yet into blu ray. Once the format war ended, I started shopping there for new blu-ray releases (guaranteed lowest price IF you reserve).

Well I only lasted about a month before I realized that I could get them cheaper from Amazon, Wal-Mart or Best Buy. Now Wal-Mart (in my area) has apparently given up on blu-ray and Amazon and Best Buy are getting about 99% of my blu-ray purchases.

If Movie Stop can be competitive again, I'd love to stop by and give it another shot.

I agree about first day new releases when Moviestop can be cheaper, but since I found about Special Editions I head over to BB, or even Amazon.

When I do go a Moviestop I look at a movie and it's listed as $29.99, and I tell myself it's $14.99 at BB or even Target right now.

Basically sales are different from store to store.

Also, I forgot to add:

Steve, that practice of removing the blu-ray from the case (for theft protection), that is another thing that drove me away from Movie Stop. They would slice the plastic and somehow drag the blu-ray out of the case without actually opening it up. That's crazy, then it is not "new and sealed" anymore.

I know several customers who hated that to the point of not returning.

First, from one Steve to another, welcome to the forum.

As for the topic of discussion, the part I highlighted above has always been one of the biggest problems for me. I don't want to have to make two trips to the store to buy one movie. If you did away with the reservation requirement in order to get the best price I would probably buy quite a bit more movies from you. I want to go to the store to buy a movie only ONCE, either on the day of release or a day or two thereafter. The other hangup for me is that there are seveal MovieStop locations around me. If I reserve a movie I have to go back to that specific store to buy it. It would make it easier if I reserved a movie and then could pick it up at whichever location I happened to be closest to instead of making a special trip back to that same location. Also, after a movie has been released for a while and there's no longer a sale price on it, it seems from my personal experience that it can be bought cheaper elsewhere most of the time.

Having said all that, I'm not unwilling to give MovieStop another chance. I'm all about saving a few $$$. I just wish you guys would make that reservation price the same for everyone for about the first week or so. I'll definitely stop in some time to check out the blu-ray sale you mentioned though.

I'm also glad to see you implementing the new trade in program for blu-rays. When I first started shopping at MovieStop I was still buying DVDs. I could trade in three old titles for a new release. Then it went to three old titles from a major studio for a new release. Then it went to three old titles from a major studio with a minimum trade in value. Then it went to four old titles from a major studio with a minimum trade in value. That was when I gave up on the trade in thing. I have no idea what it's at now.

This has always bugged the crap out of me as well. Leave the movies sealed in the cases, and also do away with those security cable wrap things that mangle the slip covers.

Steve, even if you don't reserve the title we match or beat Best Buy or Target's sale price for the first week over 95% of the time. Also, when you do reserve you are locked in for that low price until you are ready to come in and pick it up.

Currently our system can not accomadate reserving a title at one location and picking it up at another but as we grow that is an enhancement that is a must and I really appreciate the feedback.

We also stopped the practice of taking the Blu-ray out of the case on new product, we only did so in the beginning because of theft issues.

Again, please visit one of our stores and call me directly after your visit.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll definitely stop back in and have a look around. I'm especially interested in the sale you mentioned.

MOVIESTOP,

If you want to post some upcoming deals for BD's. You should create a thread.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/movie-tv-deals/
Example, you can make it "The Official Movie Stop Hot Deals Thread". That would attract customers here.

If I see something I like, I will go to the store and check it out.

Excellent suggestion MaCruz.

Just curious, but what MovieStop location would be closest to you? Aren't you somewhere in the Bay Meadows area?

I'm on Kernan/Atlantic area. So the closest one to me is the Town Center Movie Stop.
