Default I may have damages my AV controller

I moved my system on the weekend and, after hooking everything up, I realized that I had not plugged in some connectors properly. Long story short, I forgot to power everything down and unplugged the RCA cables from the controller and plugged them back in. In doing so, I must have touched the cables to the terminal and now all I get is a high-pitched ping from my main front speakers. I know my speakers are o.k. because my system is also set up for 2 Ch. and that works fine. I think I may have blown something in the "front outs" on the controller. If so, can this be fixed? Can it be anything else? I have a local repair guy who does great work, but I just wanted to know what I'm looking at before I take it to him. Thanks.

  1. It is possible that you created a short and caused a fuse to blow or some other type of malfunction.
  2. Unplug everything from the wall outlets.
  3. Take all the cables out.
  4. Check all the fuses and replace them if needed.
  5. Put all the cables back.
  6. Plug the receiver to a power conditioner and plug it into the wall.
  7. It is possible that after this, the receiver will reset itself and the problem may go away.
  8. Turn the receiver on and lower the volume.
  9. Play some test tones or movies and see what happens.

That's what I think I may have done. I'm not very adept at handling electronics, so I'm going to take it in for service today - I guess that means 2 Ch. for the next little while.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I hope it won't be anything too costly to fix.

Thanks for the hope. Incidentally, I just received a call from the repair shop and the technician said that no fuses were blown and that everything is working fine. I ask him to check everything again just to make sure.

Is it possible that the controller reset itself after having been turned off for awhile?

Who knows? I'm glad to hear it looks like nothing was damaged though.
