Default When will BD outnumber HD-DVD?

When will BD releases outnumber HD-DVD in number of titles in the US? Or atleast go past in numbers?

@ EngadgetHD the current score is as of November 14, 2006.
BD 97 HD-DVD 114.

I think a lot will depend on how quickly Warner bridges the gap by porting more HD DVDs over to Bluray.

Assuming that is not a rapid process it would probably be Feb/Mar in my estimation.

I am pretty happy with the level of releases on BD and I think of late we have seen a lot of decent releases like X3 and Kingdom of Heaven.

I think more than just numbers, the nature of the titles is going to be key in people's decisions.

Neither side seems keen to release their 'must have' killer titles yet, which is sad. But realistically I would prefer that they waited to get all the best features in there rather than rush them out... plus it gives me more time to save up for them

When, I don't know - but probably not too far off in the future.

There is alot of rumors flying around right now about dec. titles from sony reps. I don't know if they are true but the gap could be closed by the 1st of the year. They PS3 people are crazy. They are waiting outside the Local BB that I work at. They smell really bad and are a really big problem. I like the PS3, but come on there has to be some limit to the crazyness. They have been there since weds. 4:00pm.

I had a look on an online (US) DVD store and counted the list of HD-DVD and Blu Ray (both had pre orders for some titles) after removing DVD's that got mixed up in the HD-DVD, Blu Ray was ahead by about 6. It should be noted that announcements with release dates may not hold, but the gap is closing and fast.

Here in the UK, one of the most popular online DVD stores (play.com) now has 54 blu-ray discs and 47 HD-DVD's on offer.

What is curious though is that some movies, available on both formats, are only listed for one or the other; Batman Begins for example only appears for HD-DVD.
I've preordered 2 blu-ray discs so far, but will pick up more as March gets closer.

Dunno about that. I want to see more titles. And honestly, there isn't much coming in 2006 and jan/feb 2007. Just look @ the announced release dates.
We'll be lucky if they don't delay anything.
Yeah, theres a few titles I'd love to have (from what is already announced), but nothing overwhelming neither number-wise nor content-wise. Which sux. Considering that BD exclusive studios outnumber HD DVD exclusive studios I see no reason why this all should be happening.
And they managed to screw up Kiss Of The Dragon now, when I though they finally got act together... What's wrong with those guys anyway?

Sony and Disney need to get off their ass and start releasing some of the "A List" titles. I can sort of understand why Disney is playing the wait and see but no excuse from Sony.

The DaVinci Code is a prime example. It was a mega hit and should have been a day and date release.

Well BR.com forum's score is about 101 vs 116 releases (with 92 movies on BD vs 101 on Hd DVD) https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...bers#post25564 but I haven't updated it since last tuesday before I took an air trip to Best Buy central for the PS3 launch so there could be some 1 or 2% errors

I think for next week movie title numbers might be about equal.

Get used to it folks, this is exactly the same thing that happened with SACD and DVD-A. Let's hope they don't ruin the the High-Def formats in the same manner.
