Exclamation Finally made my Purchase and bought UN46B8500. Rant

I went to buy my tv on Sunday and first stop was Best Buy. Based on my room size and how close I sit to the tv I figured that 46 inches was perfect. At first I asked how much was the UN55B8000 and they were selling it for $2399. I was close to buying it there and decided to hold off and go to PC Richards and Son here in New Jersey. The guy had the tv for the same deal but he said he would throw in a free wall mount. So I went there and bought the 55B8000 with the free wall mount and he then even threw in the 2 year plan for free. So I was stoked but then I noticed on the receipt that he gave me the 55B8000 for $200 less then it was advertised for and charged me the $200 for 2 years. This led me to believe that he could have sold me the tv for $200 less and offered me the option of 2 year warranty. But I digress.

I get home and plug the tv and right away I thought 55 inches was to damm big for my room. I loved the huge tv but for my room it was a drag to have.
At first I was willing to overlook how big it was for my room because the PQ was great until i saw the horrible clouding issue. I knew of the corners because is edge lit but this one had it all over and it looked like a cat stepped on white paint and walked all over my screen. It was killing me.

I downloaded the firmware and nothing helped. It was horrible in dark spots and when ending credits came on with a movie. I then packed it up and returned it to the store. Now PC Richards has a horrible return policy, they give you 20 days and it has to be damaged for a return or refund. If you not happy then is on you.

But I went anyway and told them that the clouding is to much on that tv and I have seen other sets around that did not have it that bad. So they decided to let me exchange it for the 46B8500. I told them that 6th Ave had e-mailed me a special price on the 46B8500 for $2089. They had it for $2399 at PC Richards. So they decided to price match at the cost of me losing my free 2 year service plan with them which I thought was lame. But I told them that I would not want their lame service plan and I will get my one year with Samsung and if need buy another one on the side if possible.

They told me that they only took my tv back because i had the 2 year with them and I told them that they had to because they sold a tv that has the known issue 10x worst. So they relented and gave me my new tv and refunded me the difference of about $220 bucks

Sucks that I do not have their 2 year service plan but they did not do it because they had to match 6th ave store price which was much less then theirs so they took away my plan unless I paid for it. Never will buy from them again

I got home last night with my new tv and loved it. If fits right in my room and the clouding is not there like on the other bigger set. Great PQ

Does anyone have any good settings for gaming on 360 or PS3

I would think there are laws in place about returning undamaged items to a store. Most places will have a restocking fee but I don't think they can legally deny a return within a certain period of time. Since they given you problems it would be worth a call to the states attorney general to find out what the laws actually are.

Either way glad to hear you got something you are happy with

Well to me the clouding was so bad it was horrible. I saw another model in Best Buy and they had a dark movie and the ending credits did not show the clouding as bad as it was on this set.

And I returned it the next day and the plastic was still on the tv. All I did was plug it in and was not happy right away. Even the remote package was untouched as all I used was the remote

what irks me is that they took away my free 2 year plan just because I had an advertisement from another store with a lower price.

so they matched the price but for doing that they removed my free 2 year plan and wanted to charge me for it.

I guess I understand the reasoning behind this even though it sucks. I suppose you just chalk this up to a lesson learned and never buy from them again, as well as informing others of the issues. I just looked at their return policy, the fact that you can't even return some of those items EVEN with a restocking fee would have me shopping anywhere else.

You are dead on MrFattBill:

Never will I step into their store again. I was upset mostly because he gave me a deal on getting the 2 year plan free of charge because I also bought a blu ray player from them

I returned the item which to me should not be sold like that since the clouding is over done in this set. I have seen other sets with much less clouding

I told them that I do not want that. and would prefer the 46B8500 which they sold for a bit more but had to match my price from 6th ave.

So by matching the price they took away the 2 year they gave me. I find that bad customer service.

But what is done is done. I will register my tv to Samsung 1 year deal and hope for the best

I don't think it's bad service, since they are eating the $310 difference by price matching. For the $220 that you got back, you can buy a 3 year warranty from Square Trade. IMO, that is a better deal and you still come out ahead. Better set and longer warranty.

PC Richard has a horrible return policy (I know since I recently bought the KDL46XBR( from the for $1589.97 and then realized that Sonystyle has the very same tv for $1299.99 but PC Richard won't give me a price adjustment). Once you buy something from them and unless it's unopened, they won't take it back.

There are a lot of stores like that. Unless it is unopened or not working, you can't return it.

Congratz on the new tv OP. I would really like to see some pictures of it playing some movies, or something. hehe.

I myself was on the quest for a HDTV, and just pulled the trigger on the LN52B750 this sunday. I played $1,666 from Amazon (free shipping). I should get it this bad boy Thursday. ^_^

I guess this is a good time for Samsung, hehe. I just hope I don't have clouding problems as you did.

Thats why I only buy my things from best buy or sony style they have no restock fee and you have within 30 days to bring it back I have had no problems returning things at best buy as long as I have the receipt then they don't care.

PC Richard is the only retailer that I personally have come across with that. I'm amazed that they have been in business for over 100yrs. with a ridiculous return policy. I'll never shop there again.

Thanx.

The clouding was on the 55B8000 which drove me nuts and I could not understand how Samsung can release a tv like that. Shame on them. The set I bought and returned had horrible white clouding on the edges and in the middle.

When I turned off my xbox 360 and tv was still on but a black screen you will see huge white clouds...ugly and horrible

I then got the 46B8500 which is local dimming and when i turned the 360 off the screen was completely dark. niceee

I will try and take picks playing video games and blu ray movies.

I think I might get this calibrated....

I love Best Buy because they do not hassel you with returns.

The one good thing about PC Richards is that they charge me just 3.5 sales tax and BB charges about close to 7 percent

But I rather pay a bit more then have to deal with horrible return policies

My thought exactly.

I told them that I was going to pay the PC Richards c.c which i used to get the tv next week with my tax return and do not bother sending me the stupid credit card since I will never shop there again.

And walked out

Cool man.
I don't know if you have already done this, but you might try this calibration settings until you get it done professionally. I mean, if that's what you implied you wanted to do:

TelevisionInfo.com Calibration (46")
LcdTvBuyingGuide.com Calibration (55")
Cnet.com Calibration (55")

I've had amazing luck with getting replacements on tv's, game systems exc. from bestbuy so I'd say its crazy not to have.

Thank You for the links

I tried Cnet and think is nice but the picture needs a bit more punch

I think movie mode is great for blu rays and movie watching but what about for sports.

I want to have calibration for sports and movies and general tv watching along with video game settings would be great.

In my own tv, I normally use Cinema mode for everything, and just change the Brightness depending on what I'm watching (16-235, or 0-255). Lower for movies, and Higher for Games.

My tv does not have a cinema mode. It has Movie mode which i guess is the same thing.

but I have to use game mode for gaming because of the input lag on any other mode

Hehe, tell me about it. I got the LN52B750 today, and MY GOD is it slow. I'm going to return it, mainly because of that. I mean, it's almost unusable. I guess that I've been spoiled by fast TFT monitors, plasmas, and CRTs. lol.
