Default HDMI 1.4 Question

Hey guys. First off, if this thread doesn't belong in this section, I do apologize and won't be offended if its moved.

My question is this: I'm thinking of buying a 1.4 HDMI cable, low price of course, not gonna overpay for monster, will the 1.4 cable work with the current blu-ray players and HDTVs out there right now?

My system is the BDV-e500w and the TV is a Samsung LN52A550. Thanks as always for all your help guys, always much appreciated

Yes it will work but the important thing here is that it won't improve anything unless you have equipment with V1.4 interfaces and then probably only need that if you're considering 3D...

The whole 3D Home theater experience is a little fuzy to me yet. Basically, will we have to upgrade our home theater systems and TVs all together if we want to watch a 3D blu-ray from now on?

I am almost 100% positive that an HDMI cable is HDMI cable. Meaning there really is no such thing as 1.4 HDMI cable. It may have been tested with 1.4 Hardware, but the cable itself is just a HDMI cable. What that also means is that a 1.3 rated cable should work no problem with 1.4 hardware as well.

Bottomline is, don't pay more for a 1.4 rated HDMI cable, since it is exactly the same as a 1.3 rated HDMI cables. If the pricing is the same than go for piece of mind and get the HDMI cable that was tested with 1.4 hardware.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI :

High Speed HDMI 1.3 cables can support all HDMI 1.4 features except for the HDMI Ethernet Channel.

So if you need ethernet via HDMI then buy the 1.4, otherwise, go with the 1.3 cable. You don't worry about the loss of any other features, like True-3D 1080p.
