Default paypal question

I made my first paypal purchase (not from ebay). I add the item to cart. I go through the checkout and select paypal. I login to paypay (note it doesn't have the price there), go back to the sellers page, select shipping method and select final. It doesn't go back to paypal.

So how does paypal prevent someone from charging a higher amount than they stated? Also could a fraudulent company try to make another charge. Or does the paypal mechanism prevent this?

If someone sells an item and accepts payment through Paypal, but doesn't link their item to Paypal for checkout purposes, always be sure to include the item you're paying for and a link to said item in the comments section when you check out. That way if there's a dispute, there's something linking your Paypal transaction to the item in question. It's not a guaranteed way to avoid/solve problems, but it can help.

I believe with paypal, you have to authorize each charge. The merchant will only get what you send them unless you sign up for a subscription
