Default Clone Wars Season 1 Aspect Ratio

Hi, I was recently watching Cloak of Darkness and noticed something I haven't seen anyone else write about. During the finale duel between the two jedi and Vintress, right before she leaves, the aspect ratio changes to 16:9 full screen for a bout 5 seconds. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with their blu rays?

I don't remember it being mentioned here... but people were all over this at TheForce.net and other sites.

Yes, there's a few seconds of that episode where the ratio shifts. It also happens for a few seconds in "Destroy Malevolence", (when Obi-Wan is running, I believe).

Seems to be a mastering issue with the discs that no one caught. It has not been fixed (or widely reported on BD sites) to my knowledge.

When someone asks you what time it is, don't give them the history of clocks. (You didn't answer his question...not even close). And what's blurry? How can it it be amazing and blurry all at once?

Well, now you've got me intrigued. I'm gonna have to check my set now. So it's Cloak of Darkness and Destroy Malevolence, huh?

EDIT: Just checked Destroy Malevolence, and yep, it's a short ~3.5 second clip of Obiwan running through the corridor towards the appetured airlock back to the Twilight. The time stamp is 1:29:32 - 1:29:36. Funny how I never realized this before. Now on to check Cloak.

No problem or you didn't notice it? Those are two different things.

To my knowledge, this has never been corrected.

I mentioned this in the main thread for this release but it never really got much attention. I'd love to contact someone about it but I'm really not sure who I would contact. I made a broadcast/Blu-Ray comparison for the Obi Wan shot and it seems like the mattes were open for this shot showing more image on all sides and it somehow made its way to the Blu Ray. The part with Ventress is odd because it doesn't quite fill the whole screen so I'm not sure whats going on there.

OK, just checked the Cloak of Darkness episode, and yep again, it occurs at the 0:40:03 - 0:40:05 mark. Except in this case, the "matte" opens up, but only on the bottom. In other words, the bottom black bar disappears, but the top one stays. So I don't know if this short ~2.5 second shot is not only opened up to full 16:9 frame, but misframed as well. And yeah, it occurs just as when Asohka and Luminara are about to run out to get back to the cell block and Ventris interups them with a saber clash.

The Dark Knight did this and people thought it was the greatest thing ever.

Although I doubt George Lucas created 5 seconds of IMAX footage for a TV show.

Not only was it NOT IMAX, I don't think it was full 1080p HD. To me, that Obiwan footage looked a bit soft, so it looks like it may have been about a 85 frames of 720p footage.

Amazon carries the set all day long, every day.

Com'on folks...it's the Internet age...use it!

I quit shopping in B&M stores about 10 years ago because I figured why burn god knows how much gasoline driving around Hell's 40 acres looking for some particular item, when I could just go on-line, do a quick search, make a few clicks and the mailman brings it to me within a few days.

I like Amazon but I like to support my local B&M stores also. If everyone stopped buying at them to make all of their purchases online there would be even worse unemployment than there is now.

Watched the movie Clone Wars and was very disappointed. I've heard the series is much better. I want to give it a shot but am waiting for time to pass and the taste of the movie has passed.

Dont wait. The series is a massive improvement. Everything is tackled in a much more timely manner, and the plot details of the war are very much elaborated on. It has that feeling of being good, even though you can't necessarily pinpoint what's good about it. Maybe it's the action? Maybe it's the attention to detail? I mean, characters that appear in mere shots in the movies often get guest roles, even some recurring ones. I really like Ahsoka. The movie is bad and would've served much better for being a two or three-part episode to the series. Either way, watch the show.

And I never noticed the AR issue before. I'll take your word for it, as I've excavated a lot of discs from the Archives recently.

I absolutely hear you. The movie was a massive turd.

The series is better... much better. I honestly don't know what they were thinking putting that garbage out at the theaters prior to what turned out to a pretty solid show.

Not sure if this helps, but perhaps turning off the overscan option in your TV settings might solve the issue. My TV has those settings turned off and I don't think I had that ratio jump
