Default Amazon Customer Reviews Suck

After Paramount turned traitor, I lost my Top Gun on blu-ray. I was therefore curious about the HD transfer and whether or not it was any good. I turned to Amazon, hoping to have a little light shed on the subject. Unfortunately with a few exceptions, all I found were blu-fans bashing the HD version simply because of Paramount or people raving about the movie itself and not the HD-DVD. Come on people! These are supposed to be product reviews not forums for format bashing and not gateways for Ebert & Roeper wannabes. Just tell me what they did with one of my favorite movies!

I've noticed the same thing with hd dvd fans bashing blu-rays. It is irritating. I've not looked at hd dvd reviews as I am uninterested, but I too believe that it is weak to bash a movie based on format.

There really is no one moderating those reviews and no way to complain. The Spider-man Trilogy on Blu-ray has some people giving it ones but if you read their reviews they are simply reviewing Spider-man 3, not the Blu-ray disc qaulity and not the other 2 movies.

The review ability should only be given to esablished memebers that actually review the product.

I noticed this as well...I hate the nut-hugging on both sides. I'm for Blu-ray all the way and I have no interest in HD-DVD other then hoping that they go away, but when people try to write things off that are positives for them and negatives for us it really irritates me. People put down Universal and now Paramount just because they're not on our side, but having Universal would be huge and if we'd of kept Paramount Transformers would have been huge. Let's just use facts....that's all we need.

Precisely...the facts...is that so much to ask for? If a product (any product) is a good one...lets hear about. Tell me why or why not. I could care less about someones personal attack on or praise of a manufacturer.

I've noticed the same thing. I think it's stupid to rate a movie with one star just because it's not on a format that you choose to support. There was a guy who gave Transformers one star because it was on HD DVD only, and he loved the movie. People are just stupid at times.

Welcome to a website where people review products before they've been released to the public, where people create 50 different accounts just to bash an item they feel is evil.

If you're going to go to Amazon for reviews don't forget to bring a crate of salt to take with them.

I was also bummed when Top Gun was bumped from the planned Sept. BD release. I've checked it out in parts a few times the last few months on HD tv and I personally would still buy this when it does appear on BD. It looked great on tv, the sound was really amazing for a 22 yr. old movie and the story for the most part are still moves me. With the 15 gig limitation of hd-dud, I'd venture to say the hdtv version is better.

I think a lot of people have too much "happy juice" before writing their reiviews at Amazon. All too often it just happens to be the most amazing film/cd/etc. of all time.

Well, I guess one crate wouldn't be enough to deal with all the extremely-biased reviews people put up on Amazon. Better bring about a dozen. That should last you about an hour.

What would have been great about Top Gun is not so much the picture but the audio. Imagine having a really opened-up audio stage on that film when the F-14's and the Mig-5's are mixing it up instead!

I have heard the HD disc was bare bones...no extras at all not even a trailer. I hope sure hope they beef it up before they bring it to Blu.

Amazon should change their review system so that you can only review a product on the site if you have purchased it. So when you click on the tab to review it a window comes up to enter the product SKU that is found on the item. If its wrong then you cant review it. This will most likely never happen, but I wish they'd do something because like you all say, people just bash movies on Amazon.
