United Kingdom Doctor Who - Series Five - Volume One

I can't believe we're now able to pre-order volume one of series five already, the series hasn't even started yet haha. Still it's nice to see that they will be releasing on Blu. I don't think the price is too bad, having said that there are only three episodes and one bonus documentary on the one disc. I'm exited to see the finalized artwork though and hopefully the complete series boxset will contain much more special features as usual.

Don't hold your breath - the Tennant season's weren't made in high definition. I think it's highly unlikely that they'll do an upconversion for the previous season's. I suspect The Next Doctor will be a one off.

Hmm it's a shame, apparently the results of "The Next Doctor" on Blu even though they are not in HD are much better than the DVD version. You never know, the Beeb may decide to get more money out of us and release them for the fun...

To be fair, the DVD's don't look bad upconverted. I've just gone back through and rewatched all the new series. I'm not sure it would be worth the cost of upgrading, just to have an upconverted DVD to Blu Ray.

I'm in for the Blu Ray's of the new series though.

Why do you think that? It's hard to base your opinion on something that hasn't started yet and that trailer doesn't even show any actual scenes. The one from New Year made me really excited. I think it's the amount of changes that perhaps puts people off the show...

Hopefully you're right...I just couldn't help the feeling that they were skewing more towards the Sarah Jane audience with season 5...and this bizarre new trailer isn't doing anything to calm that feeling. And I wish Amy Pond would stop pulling those silly "scared faces"....

I can totally agree with you on your point actually. I was hoping that perhaps with the arrival of Moffat, the series would become much much darker as all his episodes throughout series one-four have all be the most memorable ones for me...

The new episode titles sound interesting:

5.1: The Eleventh Hour
5.2: The Beast Below
5.3: Victory of the Daleks
5.4: The Time of Angels
5.5: Flesh and Stone
5.6: Vampires of Venice

I'll hold off until the complete box set arrives at the end of the year!

Love the packaging though... hope that is the final artwork!

Looking forward to seeing the Silurians and Sea-Devils back, or whatever he's calling them these days.

Yes, because the farting aliens, Queen waving at the flying Titanic, and flying buses of the RTD era were all aimed squarely at the adult audience.

I think that the bonkers trailer was designed to maximise the effect when it gets shown at cinemas in 3D.

I really don't get the feeling that the new show is aiming at a younger audience.

Guys, the above trailer is shown in 3D in theatres in the UK.

That's why you find it bizzare..

Actually...no. I get the 3-D bit...it just seems a bit...I dunno...off. It's like a cross between Elsie's Eels in The Mighty Boosh and the end of The Black Hole with Maximillian and the Prof in Hell...done from the CBBC perspective...

I think I may get these actually as I won't see them on broadcast in High Definition, and as it's going to be a hefty 4th quarter for releases, I can then hold off buying the box set until it comes down to a more reasonable price - or sell the singles to get some money back towards the box set.
