Default Kuro, PS3, Receiver streaming audio without TV on?

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this but figured there might be some Kuro owners that have dealt with my situation.

I am just now getting around to trying out some of the streaming capabilities of my PS3. Seems to work great streaming video via PlayOn using HULU and PS3 Media Server for my audio files.

I can play my MP3 files from my PC just fine with the TV on but if I turn it off I lose my audio. Obviously if I want to have some music going for a few hours I don't need my Kuro running.

Everything is connected via HDMI cables. PS3 into the Onkyo receiver and then out to the TV.

I am assuming I need to change a setting on something to allow me to hear the audio from the PS3 without the TV being on?

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

I myself have never had this issue. When my display is turned off the audio continues to play through my receiver. In the setup menu, under> Hardware Setup>HDMI, I have my output resolution set to "Through"(probably has nothing to do with your issue) and Audio TV Out is set to OFF. Thats the only thing I can think of that might help.

Thanks, I have been tinkering with some HDMI setting on the reciever and the Kuro but have not figured out what the issue is.

The settings you mention are those in the PS3?

Not sure how helpful I will be but I have no issues with turning off the Kuro while listening through my PS3. The only thing that happens is that after setting up the music and turning the Kuro off the sound will stop for a few seconds and then return once the HDMI resets. BTW I run a Denon receiver, so sorry can't help with the Onkyo...I haven't made any specific chanegs to settigns either on the PS3 or the receiver...

I'm having the same issue, different tv though. I have a Samsung and I us a Marantz HT receiver.

If I'm watching TV from Directv and turn the TV off, it works fine and I still have sound with the TV off. However, like the original poster, if I'm playing music through my PS3 and turn the TV off, the sound stops.

Would be great if someone has a solution to this issue. I've been playing with settings, but no luck.

TIA!

No solution unfortunately, but, I did swap out the PS3 for a LG BD570 and still have the same issue. I would like to be able to stream Pandora to my receiver and turn the Kuro off. I don't want to take a chance of burning the image on my Kuro screen.

I have found that if I switch the display to another HDMI input that is not hooked up I can still listen to the music.

Obviously I would rather turn the Kuro off completely but as yet haven't figured out how to do that.

It's probably a setting or a physical part in the receiver itself that allows for this. I am able to stream Pandora through my PS3 to my receiver without having to have the TV on. I didn't need to make any special changes with the PS3. Maybe someone can give the technical lingo to the requirement that is needed in a receiver to do this?

Forgot about this thread. Here is a solution that worked for me. Here is the scenario. Streaming music from laptop to ps3. Tv is on and sound is working. Turn off tv and sound is lost. Change source on receiver from ps3 (dvd) to tv and back to ps3 (dvd) and sound is again working with the tv off.

Hope this works for you and helps.

The audio on the ps3 or what ever you're using has nothing to do with the TV. Unless the Kuro has hdmi CEC. If thats the case shut it off and in the Onkyo menu shut RIHD off. The receiver operates independently to the TV, so it makes no sense why your TV would be on. It has absolutely nothing to do with sound being produced through a receiver.
